Ferrari is aware of the implications such a car would have on its purist sports car image, which is why it’s gone to great lengths to convince us all of the Purosangue’s authenticity. For starters, Ferrari doesn’t actually call the Purosangue an “SUV” or even a “crossover”, merely, acknowledging that it’s “the first ever four-door four-seater car in the Prancing Horse’s history”. Then there’s the name: “Purosangue” translates from Italian as “thoroughbred”.

The 488 Pista Spider sets a new benchmark for Ferrari, for spider performance, made possible thanks to the adoption of the most powerful Ferrari V8 engine ever which was recently named Best Engine in the World for the third consecutive year at the 2018 International Engine of the Year awards. The 3,902 cc twin-turbo V8 unleashes 710 bhp @ 8,000 rpm/770 Nm @ 3,000 rpm and combines that power with increasing torque at all engine speeds for continuous and unending acceleration all the way to the redline. Standstill to 100 km/h takes 2.85 seconds, while 0-200 km/h needs only 8 seconds; maximum speed is rated at 340 km/h.

A short timeframe of 13 months was all it took for the chassis, bodywork and power train to move ahead for this project. According to Bonfiglioli, it was in June of 1986 when they began designing the engine of what was known back then as Project F 120 A.

With the iconic Ferrari F40 celebrating its 30th year of existence, we see what some of the gentlemen behind it had to say


The stance of the car, particularly from the rear three-quarter panel to the wheel arch, was carefully refined with a slightly wider track. The characteristic front engine-bay vents of the 275 GTB are an evident styling cue, as is the adoption of the triple louvres in the three-quarter panel in place of the F12berlinetta’s B-post quarterlights. However, the louvres on the rear bumper, together with the milled aluminium fuel filler cap, instead got its inspiration from the special competition-developed 275 GTB (chassis number 06885) that won the GT category in the 1965 Le Mans 24 Hour race; that particular race car won third place overall. Its yellow paint scheme is also a tribute to that 275 GTB, echoing its Ecurie Francorchamps team colour.

Designed in-house by the Ferrari Styling Centre, the 458 MM Speciale was built on the chassis and running gear of the 458 Speciale. Stylistically, the said owner was looking for extremely sporty lines and specified a ‘visor’ effect for the glasshouse: A black-painted A-pillar, very much in the style of the 1984 Ferrari GTO, helps provide a wraparound effect between the windscreen and side windows which melds into a single, seamless glass surface. This solution simultaneously lowers the roofline and lends an aerodynamic sleekness to the full volume of the swept-back C-pillar.

The new headlights which look like it was directly lifted from the 458 Italia, makes the car immediately more striking. You can be excused if you think that the California is just another hardtop with pleasing lines. However, it is more than that. If you hit the switch and wait 14 seconds, you find that the touring model is actually a drop-top. The California is equipped with a retractable hardtop that quickly slips out of sight behind the passenger compartment. Thanks to its intelligent design, the stored hardtop doesn’t take too much away from trunk storage. For a sports car, there is a fair amount of storage space - easily enough to hold luggage for a weekend away.

The Ferrari California T is the automaker’s “entry-level” touring model, marking Maranello's modern incarnation of their turbocharged stallions.


You see, the 124 Spider is the result of an agreement formed between Fiat and Mazda about three years ago. Mazda would develop and manufacture both its new MX-5 and the Spider at its factory in Hiroshima, with the two cars featuring each brand’s own engines. So, whereas the MX-5 uses a naturally aspirated 1.5 or 2.0L Skyactiv engine, the Spider will come with a turbocharged 1.4L lump from the 500 Abarth.

Japanese engineering with Italian style. Fiat revives another iconic nameplate with this, the new 124 Spider.


The standard F12 already has a 6.5 liter V12 with all of the latest technologies, but the TDF builds on that with a new variable intake manifold contributing to a 40hp and 15Nm gain, bringing the grand total to 780hp and 705Nm of torque. Despite being bereft of modern turbocharger technology, eighty percent of torque is available from just 2500rpm. Yet the redline is set at a scintillating 8900rpm, which should yield the evocative soundtrack one would expect from a V12 Ferrari.

More than just a fancy bodywork package, Ferrari have comprehensively re-engineered the F12 to create a meaner, leaner version in the form of the F12 TDF


Although shaded in terms of drama by the theatrics of the folding roof, the heart of the Huracan Spyder is still a highlight. The naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 is carried over unchanged from the Coupe, producing 610hp and 560Nm of torque. Although top speed is still the same at 324km/h, the extra weight brought on by the need to stiffen the chassis drops the 0-100km/h time from 3.2 to 3.4 seconds. Not exactly what you'd call a slouch, mind.
