The largest changes to the new S-Class occur under the bonnet, with new engines debuting in two models — a new 4.0-litre V8 in the S560L, and an AMG 4.0-litre biturbo V8 in the S63. Despite offering 469 hp and 700 Nm of torque, the S560L’s engine is among the most economical V8 petrol engines in the world, consuming about 10 percent less fuel than its predecessor. This is achieved with cylinder deactivation technology and the CAMTRONIC valve-lift adjustment system, which deactivates four cylinders under partial load.

The brand new Boxster and Boxster S make their local debut, as Porsche harks back to the past with the latest evolution of the entry-level roadster.


In a unique attention to details exercise, aerodynamics were given some smart work. The Air Curtains consist of narrow, vertically arranged openings in the outer sections of the lower air inlet. From here, air is selectively channelled around the wheel arches. It flows along the wheels with much reduced turbulence, escaping through Air Breathers in the rear section of the side panels. However alterations have been made to beef up the base car, such as front suspension that has been lifted wholesale from a GT3 cup car while the rear has a revised strut design with GT3 cup car control arms. The new headlights which look like it was directly lifted from the 458 Italia, makes the car immediately more striking. You can be excused if you think that the California is just another hardtop with pleasing lines. However, it is more than that. If you hit the switch and wait 14 seconds, you find that the touring model is actually a drop-top. The California is equipped with a retractable hardtop that quickly slips out of sight behind the passenger compartment. Thanks to its intelligent design, the stored hardtop doesn’t take too much away from trunk storage. For a sports car, there is a fair amount of storage space - easily enough to hold luggage for a weekend away.
