And now, 21 years later, the Cayenne is now in its third generation. Hard to imagine now, but when the car was introduced to the world back in 2002, it went down like a cup of cold sick. No one had anticipated such a big and lumbering performance vehicle to appear in the Porsche range, which was always well-known for its light and agile sports cars. But, since then the world has caught the SUV bug, and this viral disease has more or less swept through every automaker there is. Everyone is doing SUVs these days, and the Cayenne took the hits so that everyone else could cash in later. This is the model that pays all the bills, and if it means we get to keep fun performance models like the 911 away from the butcher’s knife for a little bit longer, then pragmatically speaking I’m all for it. Does it drive like a Porsche though?

Toyota Gazoo Racing maintained its winning start to the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with a victory at Portimão.


Markus Reiterberger (GER), Ilya Mikhalchik (UKR) and Jérémy Guarnoni (FRA) claimed third place at the opening event, which was the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, an extremely gruelling spectacle. This was also the first podium for the new #37 BMW M 1000 RR, debuting on the track for the first time. Mikhalchik also posted the fastest lap time in it, clocking in at 1:35.751 minutes. The newly-formed Tecmas-MRP-BMW Racing Team enjoyed a perfect debut, claiming victory in the Superstock class.

The GR010 Hybrid #7 of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López bounced back from a practice accident on Thursday to take victory after a hard-fought 239 laps at the home of endurance racing in the United States. After a tense race-long battle at the front, World Champions and 2022 Le Mans winners Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa also clinched a perfect result for Toyoto Gazoo Racing by finishing second in the #8 GR010 Hybrid, with a gap of just 2.168 seconds. Relentless consistency, flawless team operations and strong tyre management combined as Toyota Gazoo Racing overcame the challenge of new Hypercar rivals from Cadillac, Ferrari and Porsche. This is a tried and tested formula from Mercedes - take a loud boisterous engine, throw it into one of their cars, and magic happens. In the past, this would have meant a guzzling V8 or V12, with lots of other performance trinkets that turn their cars into undercover street weapons. However, due to tighter emission standards and the quest for cleaner cars, Mercedes has replaced this formula with smaller displacements. Bentley plans to end production of its 12-cylinder engine next April, as it prepares for its transition to electric vehicles.


The Kia Stinger first made its debut way back in January 2017, and it took the world by storm. A Korean sports sedan that wants to challenge the likes of other prominent German brands, were they insane? Oh yes they were, and it truly paid off. Designated as a performance liftback sedan, the Korean model actually became a worthy opponent to some more well-known German cars. Think something something S5, M5 and E43 . Even with impressive performance figures and practicality, sales of the Stinger were lacklustre worldwide. Competitive pricing by others meant the Stinger never got the spotlight it deserved, and the fact it has a “Kia” badge on the front didn’t help either.

The Nissan R33 GT-R 400R was produced in extremely limited quantities, and it showed the world that apart from sensible and frugal cars, Japan could produce some incredible monsters as well.


Among the drivers, Mr Akio Toyoda himself, President & CEO of Toyota Motor Corporation, and founder and team owner of ROOKIE Racing participated under the driver name “Morizo”. The Idemitsu Super Endurance race lasted 25 hours and was held in Thailand on December 17th and 18th. This race was a significant milestone, as it was the first time that Toyota’s hydrogen technology has been used in a race outside Japan. Toyota’s main aim when participating in the Thailand 25-hour Endurance Race and Carbon Neutral Power Cup is to showcase the feasibility of carbon neutrality in motorsports. This was also a great opportunity for Toyota to demonstrate its multiple-pathway approach to accelerate its actions towards total Carbon Neutrality.

Toyota Motor Corporation recently participated in the Idemitsu 1500 Super Endurance 2022 race held in Thailand, showcasing what its future-focused technology can offer even in racing.


The Singapore Motorshow is poised to feature 24 different automotive brands spread out across two levels of the convention halls. Of which, Polestar will be making its first appearance at a local Motorshow and will be rolling out a new concept model at the event. With the push for greener transport alternatives, electric and hybrid cars are expected to be the main stars of the 2023 show, in line with the Singapore Green Plan 2030.

Škoda is expanding its RS family to include another EV model. It’s (creatively) dubbed the Enyaq iV RS, and just like its coupe sibling, the Czech carmaker has opted for a dual motor all-wheel drive setup with a total power output of 220 kW (299 PS) and 460 Nm of instant torque. Interestingly enough, this makes both RS versions of the Enyaq iV family the most powerful models currently in Škoda's lineup.
