Leading the charge were the New Zealand PRO duo, reigning champion Marco Giltrap and the prodigious 18-year-old Clay Osborne. These two were the fastest drivers in both qualifying sessions. Race one started with high hopes; Giltrap and Osborne had climbed to a commendable fourth place when disaster struck. An opponent spun across their path, resulting in a collision that left the Lamborghini Auckland team with a damaged front left.
