The stance of the car, particularly from the rear three-quarter panel to the wheel arch, was carefully refined with a slightly wider track. The characteristic front engine-bay vents of the 275 GTB are an evident styling cue, as is the adoption of the triple louvres in the three-quarter panel in place of the F12berlinetta’s B-post quarterlights. However, the louvres on the rear bumper, together with the milled aluminium fuel filler cap, instead got its inspiration from the special competition-developed 275 GTB (chassis number 06885) that won the GT category in the 1965 Le Mans 24 Hour race; that particular race car won third place overall. Its yellow paint scheme is also a tribute to that 275 GTB, echoing its Ecurie Francorchamps team colour.

The new GT-R's exterior gets a complete makeover across the front end. The new chrome in matte finish 'V-motion' grille with an updated mesh pattern has been enlarged to provide better engine cooling, while the bumper sides were optimally reshaped to retain the car’s air drag and downforce. A new hood, which flows upwards from the grille, has been significantly reinforced, contributing to stability during high-speed driving. A freshly designed front spoiler lip and front bumpers with finishers situated immediately below the headlamps generates high levels of front downforce.

Like the standard car, the GT-R NISMO’s front end features a fresh face with a dramatic new bumper. However on this model, it is made entirely from carbon fibre to reduce weight. The Vanquish Zagato Concept was designed in close collaboration between the Aston Martin Design team, led by Marek Reichman, and Andrea Zagato with his dedicated design team in Milan. The Clubsport S is characterised by similarly good balance to the “normal” Clubsport, even at higher levels of lateral acceleration, allowing even higher cornering speeds. Braking performance was also perfected, in particular to prevent the rear-end from breaking away, especially when braking into very fast corners. Combined with the aerodynamics measures, this results in the driver being able to brake into bends with the Golf GTI Clubsport S in a controlled way, without losing driving stability, resulting in extremely good driveability up to the limits.

Being Japanese also meant long-term reliability was the last issue to be concerned about.
