Believe it or not, the Toyota Land Cruiser is 72 years old now. Originally launched as the Toyota BJ in 1951, the Land Cruiser has been a staple of the rough and tumble worldwide. Aussies have a saying that goes something like, “if you want to head bush, take a Land Rover. But if you want to come back out again, take a Land Cruiser.”

Toyota’s legendary reliability and simplicity meant that the Land Cruiser rarely broke down, and when it did, it was relatively easy to fix with a rock and some string while deep off the beaten track.

Category A COE cars are all the rage these days in Singapore. With soaring petrol prices and astronomical COE premiums, these wallet-friendly city runabouts are just the sort of thing a budget-conscious buyer wants - practical, fuel-efficient, and versatile.

For those of you reading outside of Singapore, here’s how we classify Cat A vehicles being registered here:

- Non-fully electric cars with engines up to 1,600cc and Maximum Power Output up to 97kW (130bhp).

- Fully electric cars with Maximum Power Output of up to 110kW (147bhp).

However, as we can see from the figures above, in traditional cases owning a Cat A vehicle means sacrificing performance and oftentimes driving fun in exchange for a cheaper set of wheels.

But, with the advent and advancement in new engine technology alongside innovations like electrical assistance, engine capacity is no longer the defacto indicator of performance.

For me though, the Golf GTI has always been a bit of a letdown. Granted, most of my experience has only been with the Mk7 and Mk7.5, but for all the myth and legend surrounding those three letters, and the accolades heaped upon it by automotive media everywhere, most of my encounters with a GTI has left me feeling distinctly unenthused.

As an unabashed lover of fast driving, hot hatches are definitely right up my alley, but the Mk7.5 just didn't serve up enough thrills. It didn't help that it debuted in something of a renaissance period for hot hatches, with the FK8 Honda Civic Type R, Hyundai i30N, Mk4 Renault Megane RS, and even its corporate cousin the Skoda Octavia RS245, all muscling in on the GTI’s turf.

But realistically speaking this is Singapore, where all car enthusiasts are considered as pests to the authorities; hence car prices are ridiculously high, cost of keeping even just one car could make one cry at times and unfortunately, majority of us could only afford one car, and one car only for every task. To the, perhaps, 30 percent or so who could afford to have more than one car here in Singapore, you fellas are a really fortunate lot.

So there you have it, the 911 C4S Cabriolet retaining Porsche’s ethos still. As a cabriolet, it's simply complete. There’s nothing to fault this car, as everything is well thought out, engineered and put together with no compromises at all; till now, I am still highly impressed as to how Porsche can manage to sort out the entire chassis and make it a solid package - in more ways than one - just to cope with demanding drivers.

GM hasn’t announced prices yet but has said that the Z/28 will be more expensive than the ZL1. My opinion? Now in its third generation - after the original Beetle Cabriolet and New Beetle Cabriolet - the latest Beetle drop-top is now larger, more powerful and also more fuel-efficient.

The Cayman S runs on a 3.4-litre flat-six cylinder engine with 325 bhp, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds with Sport Chrono package and PDK, with a top speed of 281 km/h. CO2 figures for the PDK is at 188 g/km.
