Two Taycan Turbo GT assumed the role of safety cars in the all-electric world championship.

In the last article, we took a look at how Porsche put its pre-series Taycan through gruelling and rigorous tests in different climatic conditions. Thing is, they weren't done yet. During an initial range test from Los Angeles to San Diego and back, pre-series models demonstrated their further improved efficiency.

The all-electric sports cars covered up to 587 kilometres on one battery charge on public roads.

Real-World Range of New Porsche Taycan Is Impressive

Range-testing was done with four pre-series Taycan models between Los Angeles and San Diego.

Following early computer simulations and extensive validations on test benches, the updated Taycan is now undergoing the final stages of real testing on handling circuits and public roads.

“Faster, higher, further – we have improved the new Taycan in practically every discipline compared to its predecessor”, said Model Line Vice President Kevin Giek. “And because the changes are so extensive, the gruelling testing programme is almost comparable to that for a new model.”

Porsche's lap record for its Taycan Turbo S on the Nurburgring Nordschleife was 7 minutes and 7.55 seconds, set by Porsche development driver Lars Kern in August 2022 in a current-generation vehicle with the performance package.

On 2 January 2024, Lars walloped his own lap time in a pre-series next-generation Taycan Turbo S by an eye-watering 26 seconds, making this the fastest electric car from Zuffenhausen!

Pre-series Taycan Turbo S ripped through the Nordschleife 26 seconds quicker than the current version.

So, to embrace this (unavoidable) future of electric mobility, we rocked on down to electric avenue EV Weekend. Held at The Forum in Resorts World Sentosa, the event is Singapore’s first-ever EV showcase with ten cars on display. Happening from now untill 12th December both physically and virtually, you can either pop over to RWS or visit the brands’ virtual showrooms here.

The event not only showcases the latest EVs under one roof, but also includes information corners on how you can transition from an ICE vehicle to an EV. You can also learn more about Singapore’s upcoming EV infrastructure, and the future of electric mobility in Singapore.

Ok, catchy title aside, it’s actually Singapore’s first-ever EV Weekend. We check out ten hot electric vehicles, including the latest BMW iX!

So, when an email popped into my inbox with the keywords 'cross-border', memories of the good old days - i.e. 2019 - came flooding back.

Turns out, the email wasn’t from the Government announcing border re-openings. Instead, it was the good folks at Porsche and Shell, announcing their EV charging network that spans Singapore and Malaysia.

Porsche Asia Pacific and fuel giant Shell have announced a cross-country EV charging network – that means full-electric driving, all the way up to Penang!

However if you really want the full warp drive experience, there’s a sequence of setting the car up first: put it in Sport Plus Mode, hold the brake firmly with your left foot, and nail the accelerator to the carpet with your right foot until “Launch Control Activated” shows up in the driver’s display. This then sets the electric motors to unleash a maximum combined total of 571hp and 650Nm of torque when the brake pedal is released.

The rest of the time, the Taycan 4S’ power output reverts to a more sustainable 490hp.

Much has been said about the higher-end Taycan Turbo and Turbo S. This entry point to an all-electric Porsche however is probably the best real world option.

Unlike said feats of fantasy, the Taycan isn’t a just limited-edition collector’s item, but a full series production car which you could put pen to chequebook for, and order tomorrow at Porsche Centre Singapore. This follows from a virtual launch on Facebook Live, and in-person test drives are available as well.
