One key difference between the Coupe and Spyder R8 models is of course the lightweight, fully automated cloth hood, which can be activated at speeds of up to 50 km/h, and is slickly concealed beneath the sculpted integral cover - it takes just 20 seconds for the roof to be activated. The rear window can also be retracted and extended at the touch of a button.

Built around a stiff structural monocoque using carbon fibre, titanium and Kevlar, it claims to be the only supercar to also use graphene, a material that is made up of a layer of pure carbon atoms that are arranged in a honeycomb structure. The new 911 is now fitted with an all-new 3.0-litre twin turbocharged flat-six engine, meaning the new base model of the range boasts a respectable 370 hp; this is 20 more than the naturally-aspirated engine. Acceleration has improved too, with smoother gear shifting to enhance the overall performance even further. One step up from the Carrera, the Carrera S delivers 420 hp and has a top speed of 308 km/h; with Sport Chrono Package, it does the 0-100 km/h sprint in only 3.9 seconds. This is the first 911 in the Carrera family to do it in under 4 seconds.

BP — The previous 3 generations of MX-5 had a design that was quite cute, rounded and smiley, which clearly evolved over the years. Why then did the ND's styling suddenly change to something quite aggressive and angry? Nakayama — Of course, compared to the previous generations, the design is more aggressive, but I personally believe the most important thing is not how it compares to the older cars. When you look at the car without prior knowledge about the previous models, whether it is beautiful or aggressive or not, is not the most important thing. I believe that when we introduced the first-generation model, among all the players in the industry, car design had certain tendencies. So maybe every player had a much more pretty or softer face. But now, so many players have a much more aggressive face and complex design. So I think that compared to the other players today, the design is not that aggressive.

Yamamoto — In Japan we have four seasons; in spring we have the cherry blossoms, in summer there is lots of sunshine so you can drive the car along the coast or beach, in autumn you can enjoy the leaves changing colour in the mountains, and in winter there is snow, and you can wrap up in a scarf and enjoy the scenery. So I believe you can enjoy the drive no matter when or where. I'm sure that no matter where you live, you can find a perfect place, so I'd like for you to find the best for yourself in your own country!
