While the big boys at Porsche were hard at work going round Le Mans for 24 hours, we were competing in our own ‘mini-me’ 2.4-hour endurance kart race.


Which is why TKA has opened a new track for traditional petrol-powered karts - both speed-restricted fun karts as well as full-on pro race 2-stroke karts - over at Jurong, across the road from the SAFTI Military Institute. It’s the same site that was previously occupied by KF1 Arena, and before that, Kartright Speedway. The track itself isn’t very long, nor is it very complicated - just 700m and 11 corners in total (compared to KF1 Kranji’s 960m and 17 turns). What it is though, is wide - with 10m being the minimum at any point.

1. Who, or what started you on karting? I’ve always loved racing, when I went for F1 here a couple of times, I realized that it was one of my dreams, so I researched on what we could do to get there - that’s what got me into it and I’ve loved it ever since.

1. Who, or what started you on karting? I went for holiday in Phuket and visited a go-kart track with my dad who took me around on a two-seater kart. It was quite slow compared to the ones here, but I really enjoyed it and loved the speed even though my dad is quite a bad driver. I cried when we had to go, and really wanted to get my own (go-kart). When we got back to Singapore, he bought me a secondhand kart. From then on I just practiced a lot at the old track in Jurong — I did a lot of hours and really enjoyed it.

In part one of this three-part series, we speak to Alex Dimano Brown who competes in the Junior category of the X30 Southeast Asia Championship.


The new S$1.3 million circuit features a 545-metre long track with 11 turns, consisting of a combination of sweeping corners, a hairpin and a chicane near the end of the lap. The 8-metre wide track, currently the widest in Singapore, even has multiple overtaking points that makes for an amazingly fun and safe circuit.

What I’m talking about, of course is kart racing. Not just any old kart race mind you, but one of the first races to be held at the new KF1 Karting Circuit. Yup, 72 crazy sods, including yours truly, had an opportunity to race on the new track a whole week before its grand opening! Call us pioneers, testers, guinea pigs, whatever; what better way to break in a new track than through the crucible of motorsport?

Brand new track in Kranji a major boost to Singapore’s flagging motorsports scene.


The new NX is available in two model variants, the 2.5-litre NX Hybrid and the 2.0-litre NX Turbo; the latter is Lexus’ first-ever turbocharged offering, and will only be introduced in the first quarter of 2015.

Race promoter Singapore GP’s 'Rev Up Singapore!' campaign is back for its second year, with new and enhanced initiatives to share the excitement of Formula One across the island.


The entry point to VW’s wide range of cars, the new Polo 1.2 TSI is more powerful than the outgoing 1.4. It now boasts 90 bhp and 160 Nm, and does the century sprint in only 10.9 seconds courtesy of a 1,197cc turbocharged four-cylinder engine and 7-speed DSG gearbox. Also available is a more powerful ‘Sport’ variant, producing 105 bhp and 175 Nm of torque. It goes from 0-100km/h in only 9.7 seconds.
