    • Some changes are made to the pit stop procedures this year. In lieu of the Team Empire Motorsports' Lotus Elise refuelling fire during the 2010 race - which caused severe burns to three of its crew members, only 3 crew members are allowed to be near the car when it is being refuelled at this year's race. The driver must exit from the car during the refuelling, which necessitated a driver change according to the rules.
    • The new measures also stated that the rest of the team must remain behind the yellow line in the pit until the filler cap is refitted. No repairs were allowed as well. Hence, pit stops took slightly longer this year, and for the first time, we witnessed crew members all lining up at the pit lane, ready to dash to the car and commence the needed repairs and replacements.

    • The two Audi R8 LMS cars are fielded by WRT. They are competing under the entry submitted by the Belgian Audi Club, as part of a factory-supported Audi customer sport programme. The Belgian team, headed by former racer Vincent Vosse, clinched the first two 24-hour overall victories of the R8 LMS at Spa and at Zolder.
    • The car that won at Spa, the R8 LMS with chassis number 218, will run at Sepang with three European drivers at the wheel. The Asian drivers are sharing the second WRT race car from Spa with chassis number 319. In Malaysia, both race cars are fielded with the same endurance specification as at the 24-hour races in Europe. To make conditions in the cockpit more bearable in view of track temperatures above 30 degrees centigrade both cars have been slightly modified: an electrically operated, air conditioning system with a weight of merely three kilograms conducts cooled air into the driver’s helmet and via a tube in the cockpit also toward the driver’s body.

    • With the historic circuit having been inaugurated in 1922, this year marks the 82nd Italian Grand Prix and the 61st to be held at Monza. Pirelli has claimed six victories at home, back in the 1950s, when the circuit was best-known for its high-speed banking, which still stands as a tourist attraction today. The modern track has been extensively modified over the years but it is still hard to find perfect traction under acceleration and braking as the teams run low downforce in order to maximise their top speed on the flat-out straights.
    • There are also some high kerbs on the chicanes that put huge lateral loads through the tyres, adding to the gruelling workout that the rubber receives over the 53 laps of the race.

    • The Vantage GT3 features a modified version of Aston Martin's production 6.0 litre V12 engine found in the marque's highly acclaimed sports cars. The dry-sumped engine is expected to produce 600 bhp with 700 Nm of torque and its position has been optimised further to improve weight balance. A carbon fibre propshaft mates the engine to a Xtrac 6 speed sequential transmission with semi-automatic paddle shift gear change.
    • The Vantage GT3 benefits from Aston Martin's V/H architecture philosophy, the modular chassis uses aerospace bonding techniques to create a light and immensely stiff aluminium and composite structure which not only aids handling on Aston Martin's road cars but is also an ideal base for competitive race cars.
