After having been launched as the Alfa Romeo Milano, an Italian government official declared that the use of the name 'Milano' is banned by law. So folks, here we have the Alfa Romeo Junior. Compact controversy indeed! Sean and I were having a chat about Alfa Romeo the other day. I mentioned that if it was not for the fact that sedans and hatchbacks don't sell as well today, Alfa Romeo would build a hot-hatch successor to the Giulietta if they had their own way.

Although shaded in terms of drama by the theatrics of the folding roof, the heart of the Huracan Spyder is still a highlight. The naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 is carried over unchanged from the Coupe, producing 610hp and 560Nm of torque. Although top speed is still the same at 324km/h, the extra weight brought on by the need to stiffen the chassis drops the 0-100km/h time from 3.2 to 3.4 seconds. Not exactly what you'd call a slouch, mind.

It features a 5.2-litre V10 engine with 610 hp, reaches a top speed of over 325 km/h, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. The power generated by the ten-cylinder is delivered to the road via the new 7-speed dual-clutch transmission “Lamborghini Doppia Frizione” (LDF) and an all-wheel drive that also features a new hydraulic multi-plate clutch. Three different driving modes, spanning from road to race track, can be selected using a drive select switch in the steering wheel. The system is called ANIMA —  Adaptive  Network  Intelligent Management - and impacts the engine, transmission, all-wheel drive and the ESC handling system as well as other dynamic systems.

The new chassis only weighs just 75kg, yet, McLaren claims that it provides the perfect combination of occupant space, structural integrity, light weight, and relatively low construction costs. In retrospect, the manually-produced McLaren F1 took up to 3,000 hours to complete, the SLR reduced that manufacturing time to about 300 hours, while the MP4-12C's chassis can be produced in four hours. McLaren says that the new process is part of making carbon a reality to car enthusiasts, at a price point more affordable to a wider market.

Compared to the first generation Touareg, the new Touareg has its dimensions increased in both length and width as well as a lower centre of gravity. And that's not all, for the new Touareg despite its increase in size is now a lighter machine for better power to weight ratio (208 kg lighter) due to targeted body modifications, material selection and a lighter weight power train. And even though the new Touareg is now a lighter machine, its body has a five percent greater torsional rigidity (24,800 Nm/°), making it the leader in its class.
