Today marks an exciting day for motorsport enthusiasts as Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) officially opens the order books for the new GR Supra GT4 EVO2.


Thanks to the support of customers around the world, the model reached the milestone in approximately three years since its sales launch back in March 2020. The model began selling in Europe and expanded to North America in August, then to Japan and other parts of Asia in October of 2020. The Supra-based, race-modified GR Supra GT4 was born out of a desire to give customers wanting to participate in customer motorsports an exciting, efficient and easy way to enjoy racing, as well as to accelerate the making of ever-better cars through the challenge of and feedback from motorsports.

In Singapore, eMotorsports has even greater significance, given our lack of any racing scene (karts and grassroots gymkhana/autcross aside). Disappointingly, manufacturer-backed eSports events are extremely thin on the ground here, with one of the few being Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Gran Turismo Cup.

Unfortunately despite the 2.0L Supra’s B48 four-cylinder engine being sold with a manual in some of BMW’s 30i models, that won’t be repurposed for the Toyota Supra. Instead, the new manual will only be available on the 3.0L version.

Is there more power? Many changes have been made to make the GR 86 same but better. For starters, the new 2.4-litre lump makes 35 bhp more than the outgoing 2.0-litre, now producing 232 bhp and 250 Nm. As in the new BRZ, peak torque in the GR 86 is available from a much more usable 3,700rpm.

Building on momentum of the GT86 Coupe, Toyota unveils a sports car concept that is even smaller and lighter than its already svelte bigger brother - enter the S-FR concept


While no details were revealed about power source at time of unveiling, we did reported earlier that BMW and Toyota had signed an agreement to cooperate on various areas. Hence, as this is a sports car after all, we reckon it could be potentially running with BMW's twin turbo'd six-cylinder lump paired to a 7-speed DCT. A bigger surprise would be seeing this car getting the hybrid treatment, ala BMW's i8. But hey, let's just wait for more info about this FT-1 as it comes; exciting times for Toyota…
