BMW M GmbH is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a slew of special edition models, such as the BMW 3.0 CSL aka Batmobile. Here in Singapore, the M4 CSL, and the uber-exclusive limited-edition M4 Competition 50 Jahre are set to round up the Golden jubilee for BMW’s performance sub-brand. If you want to get a first-hand view of these highly covetable editions, both cars will be on show at Performance Munich Autos showroom at 315 Alexandra Road until 14 December 2022.

To continue its run of success in the internationally established GT4 category, BMW M Motorsport has released the new BMW M4 GT4.


510hp and 650Nm straight-six twin-turbo with M xDrive all-wheel drive. 0-100km/h in just 3.7 seconds, and 0-200km/h in 13.1 seconds. $563,888 with COE at the time of this article. These are the headline figures of the topless version of BMW's bonkers M4, now with sky's-the-limit convertible soft top. But why a drop-top M car? Well, given how there are buyers who want to sometimes just cruise lazily and enjoy the open air while at it, a convertible M4 makes sense. It's still only got two doors, for those who don't want four, and the roof opens up in just 18 seconds, allowing occupants access to open-top motoring on-demand. Behold...

Although adorned with M badges inside and out, you’ll need to approach the M440i Gran Coupe with a different perspective.

New BMW M3 and M4 break cover

Both the new BMW M3 and M4 adopt that huge nose. Like it or loathe it, it’s coming straight at you anyway.


But to me, this ‘middle-class’ fast SUV is already hot enough. For starters, it features a tuned B58 unit, a turbocharged 3.0 liter inline-six engine already found in the M240i. It’s an open rumour that the eventual king-of-the-hill X3 M (if it does go into production) will have an enhanced version of this power-plant.

If that’s not enough, you’ll even have the enthralling experience courtesy of that super lively sports exhaust. In the first two gears, the needle flies to its 6,700 rpm without any effort to the point that, I think, it would gladly spin even to 20,000 rpm if Jaguar had such a maximum mark on the tachometer. It really puts things into perspective as to what sort of feat engineers can achieve in modern engines.

See that black bar perched atop the Xbox 360? That is the Kinect sensor which FM4 will be using for several features. It will allow you to “walk” around a car in a virtual showroom, crouch down to look at the details, or open the doors and hood by reaching out with your hand. It also features head-tracking, which pans the in-car camera view based on where your head is pointing. The Kinect sensor also allows you to navigate the game’s menu by voice control and even play the game without having to use a controller (we didn't get to test this out but it sure sounds funny).

The good people from Noble have managed to extract an astonishing 425bhp from a three litre Ford Duratec V6 mid-mounted engine that is sometimes awfully squandered on the Ford Mondeo ST220. It has modified fuel injectors, high-lift camshafts and twin turbo-chargers, making it a roaring feature on the track. The superb power-to-weight ratio of 400bhp/ton suggests how it should be named and you can’t be too wrong about that. The German Getrag six-speed manual with Quaife LSD transmission is clearly the trigger and what you would call, a better playmate than your Gran Turismo gamer.
