One year after Maserati unveiled its car and sports plans, the brand made a return to Spa-Francorchamps for round 3 of the Fanatec GT2 European Series.

The Maserati GT2 will be on the starting grid at the Paul Ricard circuit in the opening round of the 2024 Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli, scheduled for 5 and 6 April at the French circuit.

Three cars, two run by LP Racing, and one by the TFT Racing team, are preparing to take part in the new season of the European championship reserved for GT2 class cars. The Trident is lining up on the track for the first time since it took part in the final race of the 2023 season, also in France.

Autodromo Varano de’ Melegari was the setting for the car's track debut high-performance GT2, the car that epitomises the House of the Trident’s return to racing.

The shakedown at the Parma circuit is the precursor to a series of events marking the run-up to the official unveiling of the car at the end of June in Belgium, at the 24 Hours of Spa.

Maserati is back in contention for the GT championship, rocking up in the new GT2.

The record was not a one-hit wonder either, as another GT2 RS piloted by Lars Kern and Nick Tandy was able to set multiple record-breaking laps before the ultimate final record time was set. It was Kern, a Porsche test driver by trade and a passionate racer, who accomplished the 6:47.3 record lap time with an average speed of 184.11 km/h.

The car everyone has been waiting for is finally here. Just off the port, these spanking new cars were freshly prepared for the media to have a taste.

At the front Dumbreck was pressurising the leading Nissan of Bernoldi, while Martin was close behind the second placed JR Motorsport Nissan. For lap after lap the three cars circulated in formation, each trying to push the other into a mistake. Their battle allowed Winklehock and Piccione to close up to make it a five way battle for the lead as the pitstops approached. On lap 13 Martin finally got past Dumbreck's Nissan at T18 for second place just as the pit window opened.
