Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López won the race from pole position in the #7 GR010 Hybrid, cementing a Hypercar hat-trick for Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) from the opening three races of 2023, following the team’s victories in Sebring and Portimão. In the sister car, a remarkable fightback from a back-row start saw Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa, in the #8 GR010 Hybrid, earn an unexpected second place. Interestingly, they now lead the drivers’ World Championship by five points over the #7 crew. With seven consecutive Spa victories under their belt, TGR takes a 33-point World Championship lead over Ferrari into the centenary edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours on 10-11 June, the unofficial mid-point in the seven-race season.

The GR010 Hybrid #7 of Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López bounced back from a practice accident on Thursday to take victory after a hard-fought 239 laps at the home of endurance racing in the United States. After a tense race-long battle at the front, World Champions and 2022 Le Mans winners Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa also clinched a perfect result for Toyoto Gazoo Racing by finishing second in the #8 GR010 Hybrid, with a gap of just 2.168 seconds. Relentless consistency, flawless team operations and strong tyre management combined as Toyota Gazoo Racing overcame the challenge of new Hypercar rivals from Cadillac, Ferrari and Porsche. Toyota managed to lap all competitors twice, earning the team’s 40th WEC victory.

Pre-season testing showed good promise as well, with tweaks to optimise reliability and drivability as well as reducing overall weight. Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López will team up for their fifth consecutive season, at the wheel of the #7 GR010 Hybrid. Toyota Gazoo Racing is now defending its FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) titles, starting with an exhilirating 1000 Miles of Sebring.


A dual assault is scheduled for 2024, as the Italian motorsports gangs of Lamborghini Squadra Corse and Iron Lynx combine forces, setting the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and IMSA Sportscar Championship squarely in their sights. This joint team will be called Lamborghini Iron Lynx, and will be the official Lamborghini team in the aforementioned championships. Also working in close collaboration is PREMA Engineering, under the PREMA Group umbrella which also owns PREMA Power Team. The team is well known for racing championships such as Formula 2, Formula 3, Formula Regional European Championship and the like.

Peugeot is the first mainstream car manufacturer to join the series after a sweeping revamp of the technical regulations, and made its competition return this weekend at the 6 Hours of Monza, the 4th round in the 6-race 2022 WEC season. Its weapon of choice? The new 9X8 Hypercar. Here’s a video of its very first lap in action: It was initially hoped that the 9X8 could make its live debut at the 2022 Le Mans 24h, but the newly-formed Team Peugeot TotalEnergies elected to skip that and instead focus on further testing to ensure the car’s race-readiness. This included a 15,000km test session and a marathon 36-hour endurance run to put the crew and their processes through their paces before wading into battle.

It features the same innovative drivetrain concept consisting of a 2-litre V4 turbocharged petrol engine, supplemented by an electric motor powering the front wheels, and two energy recovery systems.
