Three years ago, Lexus previewed new design and technology in their LF-LC concept. Fast forward to the present, and that concept is now a reality. Meet the LC500 Coupe.


The app will be launched at an event called 'A Drive Back In Time', to be held at The Fullerton Hotel in October. Here, members of the public will be given special headsets powered by the new LG G4 smartphone and be chauffer-driven around the Civic District in a fleet of Audi A6s. With the headset on, the app re-creates the roads and buildings as they were 50 years ago, including iconic landmarks such as Victoria Theatre and City Hall. The device is GPS-tagged so that, as you're driven along in real life, the app follows your progress and the scenery changes in real time accordingly, and you can even swivel around for a full 360° view of your surroundings!

For most part, the Veloster drives very well. The steering feels accurate, there’s little body roll, the brakes are strong and assuring, the gearbox swaps between cogs smoothly even when you’re doing it the “+/-“ way. And there’s good composure while roving bumpy roads at speed. Importantly, with or without traction control working, the front suspension does a grand job of transferring all the power to the road without undue tricks (what understeer?).

The good people from Noble have managed to extract an astonishing 425bhp from a three litre Ford Duratec V6 mid-mounted engine that is sometimes awfully squandered on the Ford Mondeo ST220. It has modified fuel injectors, high-lift camshafts and twin turbo-chargers, making it a roaring feature on the track. The superb power-to-weight ratio of 400bhp/ton suggests how it should be named and you can’t be too wrong about that. The German Getrag six-speed manual with Quaife LSD transmission is clearly the trigger and what you would call, a better playmate than your Gran Turismo gamer.

Among the foremost challenges in the development of hybrids and electric cars are the size, weight and cost of the current generation of batteries. In order to deliver sufficient capacity using today's technology, it is necessary to fit large batteries, which in turn increases the car's weight. Earlier this year, a materials development project was launched by Imperial College in London that brought together nine European companies and institutes. Volvo Cars is the only car manufacturer participating in the project. With the help of 35 million SEK (approx. 3.5 million EURO) in financial support from the European Union (EU), a composite blend of carbon fibres and polymer resin is being developed that can store and charge more energy faster than conventional batteries can. At the same time, the material is extremely strong and pliant, which means it can be shaped for use in building the car's body panels. According to calculations, the car's weight could be cut by as much as 15 percent if steel body panels were replaced with the new material. The project will continue for three years. In the first stage, work focuses both on developing the composite material so it can store more energy and on studying ways of producing the material on an industrial scale. Only in the final stage will the battery be fitted to a car.
