The legendary Honda NSX has been shortlisted - for a prestigious award recognising the cars that changed the world


The new car will be based on the New Generation i30, which was launched last year. The racing version is designed to take advantage of the best qualities of the road-going model, which went through its own rigorous testing plan, including mileage on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.Work on the design began at Hyundai Motorsport in September last year; building and development of the cars will also be completed at the company’s headquarters in Alzenau, Germany. The creation of this new project continues the work started by the Customer Racing department on the New Generation i20 R5 rally car which showed the high-performance, dynamic side of Hyundai to a wider audience.In line with current TCR regulations, the car will be powered by a two-litre turbocharged engine (from within the Hyundai range), and fitted with a six-speed gearbox and 100-litre fuel tank. The car is scheduled to begin testing in early April, while the first deliveries to customers are planned for December.

The wreck was transported to NTCE Barcelona in May 2014 and the eight-strong restoration team began work, using their own time at evenings and weekends. They searched all over Europe for parts, asking Nissan dealers to search their warehouses for old stock; some components were bought used and also restored. Juan added, “We wanted the car to be accurate in every way, and were lucky to get the very old drawings and service manuals from NTCE. We followed all the fine adjustments to get the exact Paris-Dakar race set-up.”

The new GT-R's exterior gets a complete makeover across the front end. The new chrome in matte finish 'V-motion' grille with an updated mesh pattern has been enlarged to provide better engine cooling, while the bumper sides were optimally reshaped to retain the car’s air drag and downforce. This was when he became champion of the 2014 Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand, becoming the first non-Kiwi ever to do so.
