Pirelli has currently more than 200 homologations for the Volkswagen Group, in sizes that range from 15 to 21 inches. Another 250 homologations are currently under development, many of which will go into production within the next few years.

The long list of models currently equipped by Pirelli include prestige cars such as the Porsche Carrera, Boxster, Cayenne and Panamera, as well as the Lamborghini Aventador and Gallardo, the Bentley Continental GT and Flying Spur as well as the Audi A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q3, Q7, RS5, RS6 and TT, plus the Volkswagen Tiguan, Touareg, Phaeton and Golf.

The partnership between Pirelli and the Volkswagen Group is not just limited to the European market but also covers other territories such as Latin America, Mexico and China. Pirelli and the Volkswagen Group are also engaged in joint business development in Russia and the United States.

Additionally, the Carrera 2 outputs lower CO2 emission, and now thanks to the synergy with the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tyres, the CO2 ratings get even lower. This is due to the technology driven by reduced tyre weight and a new ‘high surface’ silica grade that contributes to reduced heat generation (lowering the rolling resistance).

Button was the star of the show, having fallen to 21st after two accidents with other cars and being slapped with a penalty for speeding, but he steadily moved up and ran set the fastest lap of the day in lap 69. With huge pressure on Vettel on the final lap, Button managed to slip past after Vettel had slid wide on the back stretch chicane.

A wet affair awaited the drivers at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, with the safety car coming out seven times and a two-hour stoppage caused by heavy rain!

The incident happened as the leaders were threading their way through the back markers, but the race was soon suspended as it became apparent that the Russian was unconscious and needed medical assistance. As the decision was taken to suspend the race, everyone went for the freshest tyres they had. When the race resumed for its final six laps, McLaren repaired Lewis Hamilton’s rear wing and Vettel, back on badly-needed fresh rubber, won easily from Alonso and Button.

Team McLaren put on a strong performance, with Lewis putting pressure on Team Red Bull Racing and closing the time gap within a second. Although Hamilton could deploy KERS and the DRS, the performance advantage of the Red Bull car kept Lewis in a close second place. Jenson Button made it a McLaren 2-3 finish after climbing from 10th position.

The new Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tyre features an advanced full silica compound which reduces the friction between the tyre's rubber molecules and provides higher resistance to abrasion, resulting in reduced fuel consumption and a longer tread life. Additionally, the tyre is built with a hard base under the tread, which reduces deformation in the crown area and heat build-up. The tyre also features even pressure distribution that helps to reduce the rate of wear.

But on lap 42, he passed Rosberg for third and then proceeded to overtake Felipe Massa two laps later to move up to second, 4.6 seconds behind Vettel. The gap between Vettel and Hamilton was soon whittled down over the next eight laps, with Hamilton eventually passing Vettel with five laps remaining.
