I shall begin with the car’s exterior. To be honest, I could not see any sort of fault with the Mondeo’s aesthetic; it looks more mature than its predecessor, which is a good thing, and sure is more upmarket now. So the face resembles an Aston Martin’s, and you cannot stop wondering why the designers seem to lack ideas, but it somewhat grows on you – viewed from the front, it has this muscular stance with headlamps that stares down in yer face. The detailed front bumper along with the grill all work together as a whole. I don’t blame you still if you do not agree with me, but remember how Lexus first brought their radical new face with the ‘Spindle Grill’? It started with their GS, then RX, followed by ES and IS, now with the RC? Well, I think it would work the same way in Ford’s case – it will grow on you eventually.

No, this is not a new sedan by Aston Martin – instead, it is Ford’s newest Mondeo


Based on the Veloster RM shown at last year’s Busan Motor Show, the new RM15 features a host of modifications that boost the latest model’s performance, handling and efficiency. Total weight is reduced to 1,260 kg (a saving of 195 kg compared to an all-steel structure), weight distribution is more evenly balanced (43% front, 57% rear), the center of gravity is just 491 mm from the ground and aerodynamic downforce is 24 kg at 200 km/h, aided by a competitive lift-coefficient. Integrated sub-frame (front & rear) and a WRC-inspired roll-cage add extra stiffness to the structure, providing a firm foundation for the aluminium double-wishbone suspension, enabling it to give precise responses and consistent handling characteristics. RM15 rides on stylish 19-inch diameter mono block forged alloy wheels fitted with 235/35 R19 front and 265/35 R19 rear tyres.New vertical air-intake placed ahead of the rear wheel arches increase cooling airflow within the engine bay and enhances powertrain efficiency.

Which is the biggest case of oh-how-unfortunate. The Veloster is a very interesting car; the Picasso of coupes, if I may be bold. Sure it’s a three-door coupe, a concept Mini already came up with in the form of their Clubman. But the thing is this: the Veloster has the extra rear door at the right place, and the rear can actually accommodate passengers easily and comfortably.

For most part, the Veloster drives very well. The steering feels accurate, there’s little body roll, the brakes are strong and assuring, the gearbox swaps between cogs smoothly even when you’re doing it the “+/-“ way. And there’s good composure while roving bumpy roads at speed. Importantly, with or without traction control working, the front suspension does a grand job of transferring all the power to the road without undue tricks (what understeer?).

Twelve RMR employees applied everything they know about fabricating racecars into the Hyundai Veloster rally Car. The production Veloster was stripped to bare metal and the chassis spent five days in an Alkali bath removing all rubber and adhesives. The chassis was also stitch welded for added structural rigidity.

Hyundai Reveals The Veloster Coupé

Hyundai introduced its cutting-edge Hyundai Veloster three-door coupe in a world debut at the 2011 North American International Auto Show.


And they certainly learnt a lot from the chief instructor Rick Bates of Australia, a former international rally champion who now runs Bates Advanced Driving in Canberra to provide all levels of driver training, including rallying and racing. His expertise was telling, particularly in showing how things were done as he accompanied the participants through all the exercises. Just as well that the venue suited the programme, with The Plaza at the Changi Exhibition Centre in Changi Coast Road providing the wide open space needed for such a safety event.
