To create a contrast to the exterior paint, stainless steel-look trim runs all around the SUV's lower body section. A prominent and long bonnet with integrated air inlets ensures the engine has ample room and remains cool. To maximise driving feedback, the car has to be set up just right. KW takes care of this by allowing the driver to adjust the characteristics of the front and rear dampers independently, while still remaining true to the high safety standards of the C63 AMG set by Mercedes Benz. The “Comfort” damper setup has a very soft damping (displayed in the App with 0%), while the “Sport+” damper setup is much harder(displayed in the App with 100%). However, controlling the dampers via the app is an option that involves the installation of a W-LAN module. Once that is installed, the unit uses secured WiFi to communicate with the iPhone.

The V6 is offered with a choice of drivetrains from an AWD ‘Q4’ system that is LHD only, to a more traditional RWD. Both V6s are capable of a top speed of 285 km/h. This “Q4” system is a revolutionary first for the new Quattroporte.

Maserati hopes the redesigned Quattroporte can help achieve a sales figure of 50,000 cars by 2015.


The new car boasts 450 bhp from an all new LT1 GM V8, making it the most powerful ‘base model’ corvette of all time. It also has 65Nm more low-end torque than the outgoing model. The exhausts are also less restrictive than the previous Corvette; the four exhausts each measuring 2.75 inches, compared to 2.6 inches on its predecessor. This results in improved air flow of up to 13%. All this adds up to a century sprint time of less than 4 seconds.

The headlights are now smaller in size and have daytime running lights that may have been inspired by Nike. The car’s rear end has also received a radical redesign. Gone are the small taillights of yesteryears, and in their places, is a pair of aggressively-styled taillights that extend towards the rear quarter panels.

AMG is going all out for the styling; the car has a very aggressive appearance to tell all the bystanders that this is no businessman’s bog-stock E-Class, but a performance car capable of scarsely believable performance figures. The front and rear bumpers, headlights and the side skirts have been modified. The headlights come in the form of a one-piece unit with LEDs and bi-xenon, as compared to the two-piece unit on the outgoing car. The side skirts are more pronounced and features trim that runs goes along the length of the car.

I must admit though that I took sometime to warm up to the car. Getting into a huggy Recaros for one, was a bit of a squeeze, and I'm not, er… horizontally challenged. I never had this problem with the old car, and I remember it being a lot roomier up front. But let's not jump the gun and focus (sorry, had to do it) on the new car.
