Honda NSX Reborn

BY Jek Ray

Honda releases more images and news of the successor to the legendary NSX. Has it captured the essence of the original though?

Honda has showcased the Acura NSX Concept. This is a further evolution of the Acura NSX Concept design that is true to the original concept styling. With the legendary name and great styling, the high expectations set a year ago (being that the car would bring new levels of performance and a unique, dynamic experience to the exotic sports car market) are being met.

The interior design concept is founded on a "Human Support Cockpit" theme, a strong expression of Acura's product direction focused on "the synergy between man and machine”, although we do see some styling cues that may have been borrowed from recent sports cars.

Good visibility, an exotic driving position and an intuitive "Simple Sports Interface" allows the driver to feel connect to the action without putting in too much effort. The interior itself looks like it is made from suede and leather, with carbon fibre accents to match. It is the perfect balance between form and function.

Just like the original, the idea behind the car is to support the psychological and emotional aspects of driving a super car at the limit. With the aim of delivering a new sports car experience that combines next-generation supercar dynamic capabilities with advanced environmental performance, the new NSX would be powered by a mid-mounted, direct-injected V6 engine mated to Acura's Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system. The V6 is bolted on to an all-new dual-clutch transmission.

The car is currently undergoing development at Honda R&D America. Even though it is still a work in progress, it really looks fantastic. Normally, when a concept car appears, it looks so overstyled that you would know putting it into production is not viable. We do however, hope that the NSX will stick close its concept looks, ready to decorate various Honda and Acura dealerships worldwide.
