Mercedes had been weighing their options ever since Hamilton revealed his plans to leave at the end of the season to join Ferrari. And just a day after Antonelli made his FP1 debut at his home Grand Prix in Monza, Mercedes confirmed the news on the eve of the Italian Grand Prix. After clinching the ADAC and Italian F4 titles in 2022, followed by the Formula Regional European Championship in 2023, Antonelli skipped F3 and went straight to F2 with PREMA this season. Despite his inexperience, the Mercedes junior has already claimed two race victories and currently sits sixth in the championship standings. Alongside his F2 campaign, Antonelli has been gaining valuable experience testing older-spec F1 machinery with Mercedes. “It’s an incredible feeling to be announced as a Mercedes works driver alongside George for 2025,” Antonelli shared, his excitement palpable. “F1 has been a dream since I was a little boy, and I’m grateful to the team for the support they’ve given me and the trust they’ve shown. I’m still learning a lot, but I feel ready for this opportunity. My focus is on improving and delivering the best results for the team.”

Unique collaboration between the two names created a new prototype vehicle — the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign


Powered mainly by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, that on its own, pushes out a decent 181 bhp and 290 Nm of torque. But coupled with the huge battery that sits under the rear boot, the combined power output is a rather heady 252 bhp and a cumulative torque figure of 420 Nm. This enables the hybrid 3-Series to hit 100 km/h from standstill in 6.1 seconds and propels it to a 225 km/h top speed.

Noticeably from the third tankful onwards, the engine needed less effort to move off and I could shift up at 3,500 rpm instead — even with two additional passengers. On top of that while cruising along the expressway, the engine seem less coarse than before. As a whole, it definitely feels more effortless to drive now — something I highly appreciate, as this daily driver of mine is somewhat providing additional comfort to make driving a less tedious affair. Caltex definitely delivered what was said on their label with this one.

Armed with the previous generation 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged diesel unit, the engine in the S350 might not be new, but it has been revised to produce more power, more torque, a lower CO2 figure and improved economy. Packing 258 bhp and a hefty 620 Nm of torque, the S350 will hit 100 km/h from standstill in 6.8 seconds, and peak at a limited 250 km/h top speed. Best of all, it behaves completely like a petrol car; it is quiet, smooth and completely rattle-free. The only way to tell that it is diesel is by driving it - because the car pulls like a train!
