The 2011 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) series sees Hankoook replacing Dunlop as exclusive tyre supplier.
Hankook, the world's seventh largest tyre manufacturer, has signed a three-year deal with ITR, DTM's promoter. This covers the current and future regulations which come into effect in 2012.
Despite being new to DTM, Hankook has previously focused its track racing motor sport activities on long-distance events such as the 24-hours classics in Le Mans and on the Nürburgring. Still, Hankook has been receiving good feedback before the 2011 season kicks off in May.
Hans Werner Aufrecht, DTM board 1st chairman said, “The performance of the race tyres also convinced everyone right away. Personally, I am happy that we have found another international corporate group that is willing and able to keep our high pace and our quality standards as an exclusive supplier in the years to come.”
The drivers also gave good responses after testing the tyres. Audi's DTM driver Mattias Ekström said that they “had a good feeling right away” during testing and had lots of positive experiences.
Jamie Green, Mercedes-Benz's DTM driver added, “Hankook has identified the requirements for a DTM tyre properly and managed to provide us with a tyre with high grip levels and a good load capacity right away.”
