Singapore Grand Prix 2024 - Lando Norris Beats Verstappen To Pole In Qualifying

BY Sean Loo

The front row at the Singapore Grand Prix 2024 is what we’ve been waiting for - a battle between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.

It’s the front row and a head-to-head between two titans of the sport, and it’s shaping up to be an electrifying Sunday at Marina Bay.

McLaren’s Lando Norris snatched pole with a blistering performance, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen will be breathing down his neck in P2, setting the stage for a dramatic race.

Mercedes, showing promising form this weekend, secured third and fourth on the grid, with Lewis Hamilton just ahead of his teammate George Russell.

Meanwhile, Oscar Piastri, despite a strong weekend so far, had to settle for fifth. The Australian couldn’t quite match his McLaren teammate Norris, who found that extra gear to take pole.

Nico Hulkenberg’s qualifying session for Haas was a standout moment. Slotting into P6, the German veteran outpaced many faster cars, including Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin, who starts seventh, and Yuki Tsunoda, who lines up eighth in his Red Bull.

But where are Ferrari in all of this? A mix of misfortune and mistakes. Charles Leclerc’s best lap was wiped out for exceeding track limits, pushing him to P9. Carlos Sainz didn’t fare much better, crashing out in Q3 without setting a time, leaving him to round out the top ten.

Just outside the top half, the Williams team will be eyeing another double points finish, with Alex Albon and Franco Colapinto starting 11th and 12th.

As for Sergio Perez, the Mexican has a mountain to climb from P13, after what he described as a "nightmare" qualifying session.

So, all eyes are on Norris and Verstappen as they prepare to go wheel to wheel under the floodlights.
