Carlos Sainz has inked a multi-year contract with Williams, partnering with Alex Albon.
At 29, Sainz found himself seeking a new team after Ferrari replaced him with 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.
With offers from Williams, Sauber/Audi, and Alpine, Sainz ultimately chose James Vowles’ Williams team. This decision aligns with the team's future, including a major regulatory overhaul in 2026 that introduces a new aerodynamic profile and 100% sustainable fuel power units in 2026.
Sainz shared his excitement, stating, "I am very happy to announce that I will be joining Williams Racing from 2025 onwards. This year’s driver market has been exceptionally complex, but I am confident that Williams is the right place for me. The team’s heritage and the chance to bring Williams back to the front of the grid are challenges I embrace with excitement and positivity."
James Vowles, Team Principal, emphasised the significance of this signing, saying, "Carlos joining Williams is a strong statement of intent from both parties. He is one of the most talented drivers on the grid, and his experience and drive will be invaluable as we transition into the new regulations in 2026. With Carlos and Alex, we have one of the most formidable line-ups on the grid, demonstrating our serious ambition and momentum."
As Sainz prepares to join Williams, Logan Sargeant will be leaving the team at the end of the season. Williams expressed their support for Sargeant's future endeavours, with Vowles adding, "I want to thank Logan for everything he has done for the team and know he will continue to fight hard for us in the races ahead."
With this dynamic new pairing, Williams is poised to make a strong push towards competitiveness.
