Evolved GR Yaris Gets WRC Driver-Supervised Special Editions

BY Sean Loo

Only 100 units of each special edition are available through a lottery system.

Toyota Gazoo Racing unveiled two special editions of the beloved GR Yaris.

Dubbed the GR Yaris RZ "High performance - Sébastien Ogier Edition" and the GR Yaris RZ "High performance - Kalle Rovanperä Edition," these machines are crafted as an ode to the legendary prowess of TGR-WRT drivers Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä.

Anyone who has watched WRC within the last few years would have known them by now. Sébastien Ogier has eight WRC drivers' titles under his belt, and Kalle Rovanperä is the young prodigy who clinched back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023.

This initiative, sparked by Akio Toyoda (or Morizo, as he's fondly known), is a heartfelt tribute to the entire rallying cosmos - from the drivers and teams to the organisers and the fans.

With only 100 of each edition up for grabs through a lottery at GR Garage locations across Japan this spring, snagging one will not be easy.

Lucky owners aren't just getting a set of keys either; they're getting an all-access pass to the heart-thumping world of WRC, courtesy of special-experience programs that promise to bring them closer to the action than ever before.

So what makes these editions stand out?

1. Revolutionary 4WD Control Modes: Say goodbye to the standard GR Yaris' "GRAVEL" and "TRACK" modes. These editions come equipped with brand-new 4WD control settings, tailor-made to elevate performance across a spectrum of terrains.

2. Aerodynamic Marvels: The Ogier Edition flaunts a new rally spoiler made from the light yet sturdy Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), while the Rovanperä Edition boasts a variable-wing CFRP rear spoiler straight off the GRMN Yaris, both engineered to slice through the air with unmatched grace.

3. Eye-Catching Exteriors: The Ogier Edition is cloaked in a "Matte Stealth Gray" that whispers tales of elegance and mystery. Meanwhile, the Rovanperä Edition dazzles with a helmet-inspired three-tone paint job.

4. Victory Lap Decals: Each edition proudly sports WRC victory decals, a nod to the drivers' storied success in the championship.

5. Interior with a Personal Touch: Inside, the steering wheel stitches pay homage to the drivers' national flags—tricolour for Ogier's France and blue and white for Rovanperä's Finland. And for that extra sprinkle of exclusivity, a commemorative plate celebrating TGR's WRC victories adorns the dashboard.
