Max Verstappen Learns To Drift With Mad Mike

BY Sean Loo

F1 World Champion and Oracle Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen takes on driving a drift car with Mad Mike Whiddett.

Max Verstappen, the current Formula 1 champion, has recently stepped into uncharted territory – a world of tire-squealing, heart-pounding drifts.

Usually, he makes sure his car has as little wheelspin as possible, but today’s a little different.

And who better to guide him through this automotive waltz than the one and only 'Mad' Mike Whiddett, a drift deity known for his audacious exploits and daredevil spirit.

Our tale unfolds as Verstappen takes on the challenge of a lifetime; learning the intricate craft of drift under Whiddett's seasoned tutelage.

And the chariot? The one-of-a-kind MADBUL drift car, a beast of a machine that's more controlled chaos than mechanical symphony.

With the spirit of adventure as their compass, Verstappen and Whiddett embarked on a duet of rubber and asphalt.

As the engines roar to life, Verstappen finds himself pushed out of his comfort zone, facing manoeuvres that defy the laws of traction.

High-speed doughnuts, figures of 8, scandi-flicks – every twist and turn a heart-pounding ode to adrenaline.

Whiddett, the virtuoso of drift, is the perfect maestro for this automotive symphony. His MADBUL drift car, a 600hp FD3S Mazda RX-7, became the instrument through which Verstappen learns to dance.

Imagine manoeuvring a beast with power just over half of an F1 car, a true test of skill and finesse.

Verstappen recounts his drift escapade: "Learning to drift in the MADBUL with Mike was very crazy, I didn't know what to expect. It felt like I was 16 again and jumping into an F1 car for the first time!"

"As soon as the engine started and I began drifting with the wheels spinning, I got more into my natural zone where I was finding the limits of the car, as I do in F1 - I felt that same adrenaline rush and my instinct took over."

Whiddett reflects, "We really pushed the limits with Max and I hope he's learned some awesome tricks he can take to the F1 track - drifting is as raw as it gets!"

"I'd love to try out these challenges in an F1 car and see what's possible in Max's seat next time."
