URA and HDB developing application to pay for parking through mobile devices

The nonprofit group's goal is to promote more choice in how smartphones get connected to in-vehicle technologies like dashboard displays and voice recognition, and in other programming, Ford and Toyota said in a joint statement. Toyota has resisted offering Apple's CarPlay and Google's Android Auto in its vehicles, citing concern that doing so would diminish safety and security. Ford, on the other hand, offers them on all its 2017 model vehicles; but the automaker still wants an open-source software platform that all app developers can use as an alternative to those of Google and Apple.

With the app running on a compatible iPhone connected to an AppRadio Mode in-dash audio head-unit, users have access to various Pioneer partner services directly on the Pioneer touchscreen. By combining these services into a single app, AppRadioLIVE eliminates the need to individually open different apps to access content from partners such as FeedlyÂ®, StitcherÂ®, EventseekerÂ®, INRIXÂ®, YelpÂ® and more, greatly simplifying the user’s experience. The dynamic home screen of AppRadioLIVE provides an interactive interface divided into four quadrants consisting of maps, music, news information, and calendar events. By selecting one of the four quadrants, the driver can bring the necessary information into focus with a full screen view.

Pioneer Electronics continues to advance the connected car experience with the development and launch of AppRadioLIVE.

“Most importantly, Android Auto is completely voice-enabled, so that you can keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road,” Patrick Brady, director of engineering for Android, said during Google I/O, Google's annual developer conference in San Francisco.The interface, known as Google Auto Link during development, is the first product to emerge from the Open Automotive Alliance, a Google-led group that includes Audi, GM, Honda, Hyundai and chipmaker NVIDIA Corp.At the same time however, it also challenges both Apple and Google to help reduce the risk of distracted driving.

The XAV-612BT and XAV-712BT are also capable of reading out incoming text messages, tweets and calendar reminders while the user is driving. Furthermore, the head units also feature MHL/HDMI (Mobile High-Definition Link/ High-Definition Multimedia Interface) technology, meaning that audio and video content on the compatible smartphone can be enjoyed through the head unit display. See that black bar perched atop the Xbox 360? That is the Kinect sensor which FM4 will be using for several features. It will allow you to “walk” around a car in a virtual showroom, crouch
down to look at the details, or open the doors and hood by reaching out with your hand. It also features head-tracking, which pans the in-car camera view based on where your head is pointing. The Kinect sensor also allows you to navigate the game’s menu by voice control and even play the game without having to use a controller (we didn't get to test this out but it sure sounds funny).
