The car’s low height and flat coupé roofline that flows into the rear render the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé an expression of pure BMW aesthetics. • This is the kind of performance that you can expect - 211 bhp @ 6,000 KW rpm with torque of 280 Nm @ 5,100 rpm with the over boost activation. You will hit 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds, and onto a top speed of 238 km/h. Do keep in mind, it weighs only 1,215kg, so the power to weight ratio is just short of amazing.
• To keep these cars drivable, all John Cooper Works models come with a standard specification list that includes a Sport setting which allows the driver to tweak the car’s throttle responses and steering characteristics, particularly powerful brakes, the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system including DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) and EDLC (Electronic Differential Lock Control) for the driven axle, plus 17-inch light-alloy wheels and grippy runflat tyres.

• For those of you who are not aware, this is actually a facelift of the third generation, it features Mazda's next-generation design DNA, with more aggressive and aerodynamically efficient styling, amongst other things we will look at later.
• The facelifted model also has a rear bumper that is more integrated into the body. It now flushes with the bottom of the rear lamps, give the rear-end a more chunky look. The lower portion of the rear fenders are more sculptured and extend downward, as they are at the front. New headlamps and rear lamps help to differentiate it from the previous model as well.
• Although it has already been more than a year, the TTRS isn’t exactly a hit among keen drivers here. You don’t know what to blame it on – that it initially came in only a 6-speed manual transmission? The boot size a joke? It looks similar to the entry-level TT? The price? All of the above? Sure, the clutch needs some getting used to and the gear changes isn’t as special as the 1 M’s, but look beyond that and you get a piece of Audi heritage in this car. • So some of you might be wondering why on earth a roadster is slotted among the other two coupes. Well to be honest, it’s because with a roof up/roof down option, the TTRS Roadster should - without a doubt - promise a far more superior driving experience. Try to imagine, you're driving fast along a straight road with your shades on while the canvas roof is down, then braking and downshifting, some steering input, engine and exhaust screaming in all its glory, tyres scrubbing, wide grin on your face as you negotiate one chicane to the other. Makes driving the TTRS less forgettable, doesn't it? Plus, let’s not deny how the Roadster version looks far sexier than the Coupe.
• The 1 M doesn’t need any formal introduction. It’s the latest “baby M” to arrive on our shores, and it packs the punch with the right packaging to justify why it’s selling like hot cakes. Under that beefed up compact body, you get a chassis and engine that – just by looking on paper – have enough firepower to eliminate any other potential competition. In case some of you have forgotten, its chassis came from the E30 3 Series, suspension from the E90 M3 and last but not least, BMW’s ubiquitous 3.0-liter six-cylinder, twin-turbo’d heart. Promising ingredients, even more so when you have 340bhp (at 5,900rpm) and 450Nm (from as low as 1,500rpm) worth of torque to play around with… And a 6-speed manual transmission. Yup, 1 M and TTRS has almost similar figures; “Deliberate coincidence”, I say.

• After some driving, we stopped for a photo-shoot. As expected, eyes were stuck on the three beauties. We were attracting so much attention with S$760k worth of road jewels, we decided to drive around a little bit more, to get fully acquainted with each of our chosen cars before swapping.
• I’ll begin with my choice, the face-lifted TTS. It has the smallest engine among the trio, but it is also the priciest – try S$282,973 to be more precise. It feels the liveliest, and most complete as a package – be it punts to work, evening cruises or as a show-off car. Under its bonnet lies the prolific 2.0-litre TFSI turbocharged lump mated to a six-speed twin-clutch S-tronic transmission, has a total of 272 bhp and 350 Nm worth of torque to play around with. All that power is delivered to Audi’s famous quattro four-wheel drive system, and that came in very useful in giving it the handling edge over the other two.

The downside? It feels mechanical and predictable, you end up feeling detached and less of a driver, overall it lacks in character. But still, you will enjoy throwing it hard into every sweeping bend – especially when you engage the complicated suspension’s sport mode that hardens and sharpens everything. And when a cat crosses the road, it stops confidently thanks to those responsive anchors.

The miniature rear mid-engine was developed based on a near obsolete E07A MTREC (Multi Throttle Responsive Engine Control) platform that compliments sensitive throttle control and better torque. It would be impressive to know that the specific output is 96bhp per litre despite running on SOHC and 12 valves. In simple engineering terms, it is as efficient as your neighbour’s Integra GSR.
• And I assure you, the electronically limited speed limit of 134km/h will not affect the optimal ranges of your local overhead gantries. Honda’s ideology of naturally aspirated supremacy suggests that the Beat would be bold enough to harass the under-660cc forced induction technologies of today a little. For starters, the car weighs 100 kilograms lighter than its counterparts, has a five-speed gear stick ahead of those four-speed automatic transmissions and all-wheel discs for better braking control. The mid-engine placement and independent Macpherson struts for the front and rear makes for some good nimble handling.

• But what if there was that one car? A car with exotic looks? A car that has a zero to 100 in super car territory? A car that turns heads, be it pedestrians or motorists? Would these factors be enough to turn petrol heads into tree huggers before Gaia gets her body lined in chalk, victim of a concerted homicide from humans? The answer in the Tesla’s case is probably a resounding yes. Zero emissions dear readers in Tesla speak, does not equate to zero fun.
• Churning out 288 horses and 400 Nm worth of back pinning torque, the Tesla Roadster Sport accelerates from zilch to 100 under 3.9 seconds, well 3.7 to be exact. Of course one might say this car is not as fast as some other petrol powered European exotics or American muscle, but to achieve a timing of anything below four seconds for these cars as quoted, you need a combination of good driving conditions and skill to boot. On the other hand, the Tesla makes driving a cinch. In fact off the blocks, you can easily murder anything, be it a Ferrari or a highly souped up JDM ride. With the Tesla, torque is on tap and on the house, courtesy of the car’s single gear transmission. In fact the two Evo IXs we encountered can attest to that.

• Eight years ago when the 350Z was announced to the world by Nissan, the world was in rapture, applauding Nissan for reintroducing its Z line of cars back into the Japanese manufacturer's stable of sports cars. In fact the 350Z was considered long overdue after the demise of the 300ZX, a car which was one of those noteworthy members of the Z lineage. Enough of history though, for this article is all about the latest member in the Z family, the 370Z roadster.
• As compared to its predecessor the 350Z with its bullfrog stance, the 370Z Fairlady sports a tauter and curvier body design giving it a very seductive exterior. Akin to Monica Belluci with a well toned body figure after going through a fitness regime, but that's just a allegory for the 370Z coupe. For the roadster, the description takes it a notch further, making your mental imagery a little more vivid, think Monica Belluci topless... That's how sexy this car is.
