NISMO Festival 2024 Set To Return To Fuji Speedway

Nissan has announced that the 2024 NISMO Festival, slated for December 1st, will happen at the Fuji International Speedway in Shizuoka, Japan.


The team will line up Denis Lian, James Mitchell and another driver still to be decided.

BP: Hi Mr Winkelmann, first and foremost could you tell us more about Lamborghini's motorsports initiatives and how it could benefit the company's branding and customer relations efforts? SW: In terms of motorsports, Lamborghini has moved beyond just having driving experiences on the race tracks. We have recently initiated a double pronged approach worldwide, with two different levels. One of them is known as the Esperienza, which quite simply translates into an experience. This is for our prospects - potential customers and fans that dream of owning their very own Lamborghini one day, and through the Esperienza, their dreams of driving one is instantly fulfilled. The Esperienza allows them to experience the brand and the cars, and to understand how easy it is to drive these cars. The other one is the Lamborghini Academy, which is a customer program that allows us to impart a slew of driving skills that range from safety driving to discovering a potential race car driver to participate in the Super Trofeo series, which is a one make race for gentleman drivers. Through these two initiatives, the prospects and customers learn much more about the cars and what they can do with it than by driving it themselves. These initiatives also create a family atmosphere for the existing Lamborghini owners, and help forge a bond between the company and its customers, thus enhancing the relationship. What we aim to do is tell customers and prospects that it is all about the emotion and the passion for the brand and the products when it comes to owning a Lamborghini. And as mentioned earlier, the Super Trofeo allows one to drive a Lamborghini race car on a F1 track while being watched by family, friends and other spectators, and this series is being held in three regions of Northern America, Europe and Asia. Last but not the least; we have our own GT3 initiative, which is a development of a race-ready Gallardo GT3 that will be driven by professional drivers to compete in FIA’s new GT3 category.

In Conversation With Stephan Winkelmann

We recently had the privilege to sit down and have a chat with Stephan Winkelmann, president and chief executive officer of Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. about Lamborghini at the Fuji Speedway.


Just after that, something happened in the battle for the lead. Tsukakoshi in car No. 17 had been chasing Matsuda in No. 12 at a faster pace and was already on his tail by lap 45, where he made a braking mistake going into the hairpin turn and did a half-spin that sent his car colliding into No. 12. (Matsuda). This caused Matsuda to spin as well. Tsukakoshi (No. 17) recovered first and took the lead, but three laps later the decision was made to give him a drive-through penalty as the one responsible for the collision. On the same lap 47 where Tsukakoshi was given his penalty, the battle for third was heating up. Yamamoto in car No. 100 passed car No. 36 (Nakajima) in the Atwood Curve. When No. 17 (Tsukakoshi) returned to the pit lane for the drive-through penalty, it moved No. 100 (Yamamoto) up into second position. From this point on, Yamamoto in car No. 100 began to close the gap slowly on No. 12 (Matsuda), but the gap was too was too big for him to catch No. 12 before it took the chequered and the win.

Consecutive victories for the GT-R, the CALSONIC IMPUL GT-R wins at Okayama!


Among these, Ito (No. 6) was running at the fastest pace and gradually closing what was initially a 16-second gap between him and Motoyama (No. 23). It looked as if Ito would eventually take the lead if that pace continued, but with about ten laps remaining the rain began falling harder and forming puddles on the track that made conditions treacherous. Cars began spinning out and running off the track. Seeing this, the Clerk of the course ordered the red flag out at the end of lap 60 to stop the race. Eventually it was decided to end the competition at this point, making the running order at the end of lap 59 the final finishing order. This gave the victory to the No. 23 MOTUL AUTECH GT-R (Satoshi Motoyama/Benoit Treluyer). Finishing seconnd was the No. 6 ENEOS SUSTINA SC430 (Daisuke Ito/Kazuya Oshima), while third went to the No. 19 WedsSport ADVAN SC430 (Tatsuya Kataoka/Seiji Ara).

Super GT 2011 - Round 2

The Motul Autech Nissan GT-R wins the bad-weather season opener.


In the standing start, the two machines on the front line, the No. 43 ARTA Garaiya (Morio Nitta) and the No. 5 MACH GOGOGO SHAKEN408R (Haruki Kurosawa), both made flying starts. They were both given drive-through penalties that took them out of contention for the lead. On the first corner just after the start, the No. 31 MAGICAL CARBON apr Axio (Koki Saga) ran off the track. It appeared to be the result of a collision with another car and Saga was unable to restart and thus retired. The car that emerged unscathed by all these mishaps and confusion to lead the race was the UP START MOLA Z (Naoki Yokomizo). Following in second position was the No. 3 TOMICA Z (Masataka Yanagida). This gave the Fairlady Z machines a 1-2 lead in the early stages of the race. Behind them came two FIA GT machines, the No. 25 ZENT PORSCHE RSR (Takeshi Tsuchiya) and the No.11 JIMGAINER DIXCEL DUNLOP F430 (Tetsuya Tanaka).

ENEOS SC430 team's Daisuke Ito scores first win to secure the JAF Grand Prix title since moving to Toyota!


The GT300 class Race 1 began at 14:00. There was no confusion at the start, despite it being a standing start instead of the usual SUPER GT rolling start. The first car into corner one was the pole-starting No. 43 ARTA Garaiya (Shinichi Takagi). Following in second was the No. 74 COROLLA Axio apr GT (Yuji Kunimoto), but the third-place grid starter, the No. 11 JIMGAINER DIXCEL DUNLOP F430 (Katsuyuki Hiranaka), lost ground badly at the start. Among the leaders, the Hiroki Yoshimoto in the No. 66 triple a Vantage GT2 got an especially good start, jumping up from fifth position on the grid to be the third one into the first corner. From there, Takagi (No. 43) had trouble holding pace and was soon passed by No.74 (Kunimoto) and No. 66 (Yoshimoto). On lap 11, Yoshimoto (No. 66) accelerated past No. 74 (Kunimoto) to finally move into the lead.

Lyons (ZENT CERUMO SC430) scores runaway victory from pole while the GT300 class sees a come-from-behind win by Hiranaka (JIMGAINER F430).


The effects of the typhoon included mudslides and other damage within the grounds of Fuji Speedway, and although reconstruction work is under way, there has also been severe damage to roads in the vicinity of the Speedway. It has become evident that attempting to hold the race as scheduled under such conditions would not only be an imposition on the spectators attempting to come to the race, it could also seriously hinder the work of the local authorities and citizens to recover quickly from the typhoon damage. As such, the Oyama Town authorities has made a request to cancel the race.
