• The WRX concept has been designed as a ready-to-rally 4 door sedan. With a much lower and wider stance, it looks a whole lot more aggressive than the current car. To make the car even more aggressive, Subaru has ditched the tiny grille of the current car and have gone for an extremely pronounced front meshed grille and large air intake. The front end is then rounded off by a large bonnet scoop. The rear of the car has received some rather un-Subaru-like cues too; Subaru has ditched the WRX’s huge wing and replaced it with a BMW M3-esque lip spoiler. The whole package certainly looks smart, and knowing Subaru, will probably go like stink too.

• On the subject of bonnet bulges and going like stink, Subaru themselves have not revealed what would reside under that beautiful bonnet, although we can expect a turbocharged 2.0 litre of some sort.
• The WRX Concept is definitely a stunning looking thing. Subaru has managed to strike the perfect balance between aggression and beauty for this concept car. The amount of attention to detail is just obsessive, which is why I think this car is the best looking car ever produced by Subaru. That said, it’s not likely this is exactly what the final product will look like as the majority of concept cars get ‘dulled down’ before they enter production. It’s a real shame that such a beautiful machine would never get to feel the roads beneath its wheels.

As a car enthusiast in Singapore caged by endless rules and taxes, this news comes at a perfect time to give us hope and take our minds off the recent ridiculous trends in our car industry. If you'll excuse me, I've now got to start saving for my own trackday monster...
• The biggest draw for trackday junkies (other than the very existence of the track)? The fact that the 5-6km track will be designed by Hermann Tilke, he of Yas Marina, Circuit of the Americas and Sepang fame. What makes this project even more interesting are the geographical features of the site, which includes elevation changes of up to 60m, prompting Tilke to liken it to some other famous tracks like Brands Hatch and even the Nurburgring's Nordschleife.
• Apart from the main circuit, which will be lit to allow for the possibility of night races, the facility will also contain a CIK-certified kart track, off-road course and areas for advanced driving schools and driver training. Supplementing the different tracks will be various dealerships and test facilities for manufacturers, and workshops for repairs and tuning companies. To appeal more to enthusiasts, there are also plans to make it more family-friendly, with hotels, weekend homes, F&B and retail outlets, and a museum. There will also be bonded garages and storage space for collectors to keep not only their trackday and race machines, but also classic cars that can be used on the roads Malaysia once their COEs in Singapore expire. On a personal note, this last bit is a fantastic idea, because I find it one of the biggest shames that owners have to let go of their beloved rides at the end of every COE cycle, with many beautiful and beautifully kept cars getting exported or worse, scrapped.

Our test car came with the 'Modern' package, which swathed the interior of the AH3 in light beige leather and a rather unique choice of wood grain. While it is admittedly different and refreshing in an avant-garde sort of way, it won't make it onto my spec list if I was shopping for an AH3. The relief of the wood grain is just too pronounced for my taste.
• What was rather cool though, was the white-on-brown instrument dials. Set against the black cluster board, the dials had a contemporary look to them and matched the overall interior extremely well. While not exactly sporty, this interior looks fresh compared to the often black and grey interiors from BMW that we're used to.

• As you might expect, those figures translate to a very fast Audi S5. Acceleration is very lively, but not as 'angry' as we remember the V8 to be. But the supercharger does brings on the power at a low enough rev range for the car to pick up the pace almost instantaneously. The S5 has a 0-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds, and will go on to hit 250 km/h given the space.
• It doesn't end there. Probe your date a little more and it'll reveal even more talents. Throw it into a series of bends and the S5 will just hug onto them for dear life. The throttle is progressive and will allow you to gauge when it's on the brink of reaching its limits. Audi's seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch gearbox is as always, a joy to use. Quick and responsive, it makes driving fast easy as you can really tame the S5's power with the accessibility of the engine's performance via the gearbox.

I never had this problem with the old car, and I remember it being a lot roomier up front. But let's not jump the gun and focus (sorry, had to do it) on the new car.
• Visually, the new ST is mean and aggressive from all angles. It looks clearly fiercer than a standard Focus and the bodykit with gaping vents speak only of speed! You won’t mistake this for anything else this is the baddest Focus yet. It's racy enough, especially in our test car's Tangerine Scream colour (shouldn't it have been Screaming Tangerine? Y'know, S.T., Screaming … never mind). The standard 18-inch wheels have been updated from the previous generation design. While similar in style, the edges are now sharper and taper off at the end. Overall, it looks as fast as it goes - that's good.
• Back to the interior, there are two ways to look at it, some will find the new cabin messy and complicated. I think it's a huge improvement from the previous Focus, both in terms of design and build-quality. But the chunky console and large Recaro bucket seats do take up more space, and this is no good for those in the front. But once you're snug in the seats, everything starts to get better. Visibility is good, the instrumentation and switches are within reach - except for the power button, which is a bit hidden from view (according to my height at least). The set of three gauges — oil temperature, boost pressure, and oil pressure — are back, and sit atop the dashboard.

• A typical drive in smooth traffic will usually take the trip from Jakarta to Bandung only two hours. Guess what: the convoy was stuck in traffic for a good two hours instead. It really tested the driver’s patience, alertness and of course, bladder.

We arrived in Jakarta at about 3:00pm (Jakarta time) with a chauffeur picking us - a fellow motoring scribe from SGCarmart and BMW Asia’s Corporate Affairs Director - up in a gangsta black BMW X5 xDrive35i (with full tinted windows for added gangsta drama) from the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. As the drive will not begin until 8:30pm in the evening, our chauffeur dropped us off at Plaza Senayan for some R & R; the three of us decided to enjoy some local food at the mall’s food court. Like they say, sometimes nothing beats local food.
• At 5:30pm, the chauffeur picked us up again and then dropped us off at the starting point of this drive: Café Aria at the Panin Bank building which is located within Jakarta’s CBD.
• From all walks of life. Cars line up for transponder testing.
