But realistically speaking this is Singapore, where all car enthusiasts are considered as pests to the authorities; hence car prices are ridiculously high, cost of keeping even just one car could make one cry at times and unfortunately, majority of us could only afford one car, and one car only for every task. To the, perhaps, 30 percent or so who could afford to have more than one car here in Singapore, you fellas are a really fortunate lot.

Porsche's mid-engine sports coupe arrives, with World Number One in women's tennis gracing event


The similar, new 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder flat engine seen in the 718 Boxster are being deployed in the 718 Cayman. As a result, both coupé and roadster have an identical engine output for the first time - the entry-level version starts with 300 hp. The S model has more, delivering 350 hp courtesy of a bigger 2.5 litre engine; it gets 25 hp more power compared to the predecessor models.

The fourth, redeveloped generation of the mid-engine sport coupé debuts in Singapore just a few weeks after the 718 Boxster


The GT4 Clubsport is blessed with many of the same traits that make its street-going sibling a riot to drive, such as bodywork that helps to produce genuine downforce on both axles, a lower, wider track and a mid-mounted 3.8 liter flat six engine that produces 385hp. However alterations have been made to beef up the base car, such as front suspension that has been lifted wholesale from a GT3 cup car while the rear has a revised strut design with GT3 cup car control arms. The 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brake calipers are also a one piece design now for added strength.

Here's one for the driving purists: Porsche's manual-only Cayman GT4 makes its local debut


The Cayman GT4 is powered by a mid-mounted, 3.8-litre flat-six engine with 385 hp (283 kW) produced at 7,400 rpm, which is derived from the 911 Carrera S engine. Its power is transmitted by a standard six-speed manual gearbox with dynamic gearbox mounts - there is no PDK transmission option, which should be good news to purists. This translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 4.4 seconds; top speed is 295 km/h. The car\'s NEDC fuel consumption is 9.7 km/L, equivalent to 238 g/km CO2.

This means the Boxster GTS now has an output of 330 bhp while the Cayman GTS delivers 340 bhp. Nominal torque has also been increased, with 370 Nm available from 4,500 rpm to 5,800 rpm for the Boxster GTS and 380 Nm from 4,750 rpm to 5,800 rpm for the Cayman GTS. This boost in performance also drives the power-to-weight ratio of the Cayman GTS below the four kg per hp barrier; the Boxster GTS is also close to this barrier.

Sit yourself inside the Cayman, and you'll find that this is one sports car that is easy to get comfortable in. It may be low slung, but the seats are comfortable and visibility all round is excellent. Materials used in the cabin are of high quality - what else would you expect from the Germans. That being said, the Boxster S we have in our company stable is starting to show signs or wear, even the plastic areas we hardly come into contact with are beginning to scratch off. No chance of a long term test with this Cayman though, so we wouldn't know how it's interior will stand the test of time.

So Good It Hurts | Porsche Cayman 2.7 PDK

The new Porsche Cayman is seriously good. In fact, it's definitely the best drive I've had this year so far. So why am I still missing the previous one?


As before, two engine options will be available, with a choice of 6-speed manual or 7-speed PDK gearboxes. The base Cayman has a 2.7-litre flat 6 with 275 bhp, while the S shares its 3.4-litre engine with the 991 Carrera, albeit in a different state of tune, producing 325 bhp. Thanks to stop-start and direct injection, Porsche claims a 15% improvement in fuel efficiency, bringing the figures to 7.9km/l and 8.4km/l for the base and S models.

Evolution is once again the name of the game at Porsche, with the launch of the 2nd-gen Cayman and Cayman S.


The Cayman S runs on a 3.4-litre flat-six cylinder engine with 325 bhp, and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds with Sport Chrono package and PDK, with a top speed of 281 km/h. CO2 figures for the PDK is at 188 g/km.

Although it has already been more than a year, the TTRS isn’t exactly a hit among keen drivers here. You don’t know what to blame it on — that it initially came in only a 6-speed manual transmission? The boot size a joke? It looks similar to the entry-level TT? The price? All of the above? The newest member of the mid-engined Cayman family features the highly efficient 3.4-litre, flat six-cylinder Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) boxer engine found in the Cayman S, but it has been tuned to produce an additional 10 hp. With a six-speed manual transmission, the Porsche Cayman R sprints from a stand-still to 62 mph in 5.0 seconds, two-tenths of a second faster than the Cayman S.
