McLaren introduces open-air motoring to the Sports Series portfolio


In early 2016, a second shift was introduced into the McLaren Production Centre to cater for the increased volume thanks to the introduction of the Sports Series family, today comprising the 540C, 570S and 570GT. This took capacity at the Production Centre from 10 cars per day to 20 cars per day. 2016 also marked the announcement of the company’s third year of profitability in the first five years it has been producing cars — unprecedented in the automotive industry. McLaren is also on target to almost double its sales this year  compared to 2015, from 1,654 cars last year to over 3,000 cars in 2016, of which over 90 percent exported. This volume increase is thanks, in large part, to the ramp up in production and success of the Sports Series models.

What started off first with a McLaren 12C, the grey 570S that rolled off the production line marks the brand's 10,000th unit


The intricately designed dihedral doors, a McLaren design signature since the iconic F1, possess a three dimensional form including a ‘floating’ door tendon which houses a discreet door button. This unique feature divides the airflow, channelling it into the side intakes and underneath the flying buttresses. This architectural structure ensures drag is minimised along the profile of the 570S, while also optimising levels of cooling and downforce.

After teasing for months, McLaren reveals its first model in their 'Sports Series', the 570S Coupé


A pure McLaren, offering class-leading levels of performance, coupled with optimised handling characteristics and driving dynamics, the 570S Coupé marks the first time McLaren has offered its pioneering and race-derived technologies in the sports car segment.  In line with the naming convention begun with the 650S, the number 570 gives away the power output of this first McLaren Sports Series model: 570PS (562 bhp).Further details and images of the McLaren 570S Coupé will be announced next week ahead of the global reveal which will take place at the McLaren Automotive press conference in New York.
