'Economy' and 'performance SUV' are not words you would usually use in the same sentence. But this turbocharged 3.0 V6 diesel will serve 100km/h in 7.6 seconds and a 7.4l/100km range.


Under the hood sits a twin-charged 2.0-litre TSI engine borrowed from the Golf GTI, serving 180 hp and 280 Nm of torque. The Tiguan Sport gets 30 additional horses added to the stable. Both variants shuffle the power to the road is a 7-speed DSG gearbox and 4 Motion, a permanent all-wheel drive system.

Both power plants are mated to an eight speed automatic transmission that is designed for towing and offroad use. The Touareg Hybrid reaches a top speed of 240 km/h and accelerates to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds. A 1.7-kWh nickel metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery pack now sits in the spare tyre well and packs enough energy to drive the Touareg up to two kilometres. The battery is kept at an optimum operating temperature with two fans and a duct that leads to the interior ventilation system.

The crowd favourite was the 3D Car Projection Show on the new CT 200h which is the first of its kind in Singapore. For this leading edge technological showcase, Lexus created an indoor theatre-style enclosure especially for the event. The 3D Car Projection Show was repeated every ten minutes and anchored the multi sensory Progressive Luxury Experience for guests.

Lexus recently held the Progressive Luxury Experience (PLE) showcase at the Paragon Atrium from 30 April to 2 May 2011.


The Special Stages (SS) challenged the driving and recovery skills in the two classes of competitor teams (Modified and Special) to the maximum as they shake, rattled and rolled their machines. If the Friday Prologue SS was tough with mechanical problems and broken egos, the following two days were tougher for man and machine. On the second day, the action shifted to the banks of the Isonzo river and the hills of Farra. It was time for very technical maneuvers which required nerves of steel even from the most seasoned teams, but everyone was on full throttle with passion and played out the SS with true grit.

Now let's begin with the exterior. Shy, retiring types who like to keep their feet firmly on the ground should look elsewhere, for what we have here is a soft-roader that is very big, very bold and very, very in your face. The X6M is deeply aggressive from the front, with its big air intakes and angry-looking headlamps. With those bumps on the bonnet, subtlety does not figure greatly in the overall design philosophy of this SUV. From the side, it looks rough and tumble and you can know that BMW's designers subdued themselves to not go overboard with the bodywork. Details are definitely well planned, with each and every crease functional in reducing drag at high speeds. You then get a set of 20-inch M alloys, wrapped in grippy-but-stiff Bridgestone Dueler HP Sport rubbers (275/40 R-20 front, 313/35 R-20 rear) to complete the package.

The power delivery in sport mode can be a little sudden. It accelerates normally, followed by a surge when the turbo kicks in. We do love the explosive acceleration but in heavy traffic, it's a bit hard to drive smoothly unless you leave it in Normal, or Eco mode which has the least throttle responsiveness, but delivers the smoothest drive.
