‘Premium Dynamism’ is what Nissan terms the Qashqai’s new look. At the front, the Qashqai gets an integrated new front bumper, featuring more of the car’s body colour and glossy black plastic. Nissan’s iconic ‘V-motion’ grille frames the new Nissan badge — with a traditional badge for the 1.2-litre variant, and a flat finish for the 2.0-litre variant in order to house the Intelligent Emergency Braking (IEB) system’s radar. Wondering how this is made possible, eh? To put it in laymen’s term (that would be easy for non-engineers - like me, even - to decipher), it begins with a new Bridgestone innovated compound that was developed at the Nano level. This compound was designed to provide almost glue-like grip when it comes into contact with water. Secondly there are the deeper grooves, which are improved over its predecessor, the EP200. Last but not least a round rib edge, which maintain the tyre’s stiffness along with providing maximum contact shape and pressure.

After clocking more than 5,000 km on Bridgestone’s latest comfort-biased rubber, here’s our honest opinion


Power comes courtesy of a 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8 engine derived from the outgoing M5, but revised to feature newly developed turbochargers, ultra-efficient charge air cooling and increased fuel injection pressure, increasing power to 600 bhp and 750 Nm of torque, up from the F10-chassis M5’s 560 bhp and 678 Nm. The century sprint takes just 3.4 seconds, all the way to an electronically limited top speed of 250kmh. With the optional M Driver’s Package, however, the fun continues till the speedometer touches 305kmh.

Well this isn’t BMW’s first attempt at luring more buyers towards their diesel 5 Series model. Both E60 and F10 generations were offered with a diesel option — 520d — but unfortunately, interest is small. Probably the clattering at idle was too embarrassing; or it could be due to the fact that it lacks the refinement when driven over longer distance.

First a bit about the car. The 160 bhp 2.4-litre Estima came shod with oddly matched forged staggered wheels that while I think look cool, are better fitted on a RWD car. Nonetheless, I've decided to keep them on since they work fine and are in pretty good condition. The tyres though, were not. Wrapped in mismatched brands (one Toyo, one Dunlop, two China-brand), it just made me uneasy whenever I spent time on the road.

Yours truly took the Huracan All-Wheel Drive on a quick spin around the Marina Bay area, and it must be said this 610 bhp/560 Nm 5.2-litre V10 sports car impresses with its smooth and predictable power delivery, lovely exhaust note and addictive engine roar. Build quality is faultless to say the least, and the cockpit is one of the best place to be in, for something costing just below a million dollars, without options.
