After clinching second in the GTP class at the Twelve Hours of Sebring (USA), BMW M Team RLL again enjoyed podium celebrations at Long Beach (USA).


Markus Reiterberger (GER), Ilya Mikhalchik (UKR) and Jérémy Guarnoni (FRA) claimed third place at the opening event, which was the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, an extremely gruelling spectacle. This was also the first podium for the new #37 BMW M 1000 RR, debuting on the track for the first time. Mikhalchik also posted the fastest lap time in it, clocking in at 1:35.751 minutes. The newly-formed Tecmas-MRP-BMW Racing Team enjoyed a perfect debut, claiming victory in the Superstock class.

Two of them look ahead to the future, whilst the other twelve have been selected from the hues of the most popular GranTurismo models of the past, such as the characteristic Amaranto from the 1947 Maserati A6 1.500, and the Oro Longchamps that brightened the 1973 Maserati Khamsin. The outfit of this extraordinary One Off is embellished with details of more than 8,500 letters hand-applied, making up the names of Maserati cars, creating a second level of shade and harmonising the entire colour coating, all painted by hand.

After a tense race-long battle at the front, World Champions and 2022 Le Mans winners Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa also clinched a perfect result for Toyoto Gazoo Racing by finishing second in the #8 GR010 Hybrid, with a gap of just 2.168 seconds. Relentless consistency, flawless team operations and strong tyre management combined as Toyota Gazoo Racing overcame the challenge of new Hypercar rivals from Cadillac, Ferrari and Porsche. This is a tried and tested formula from Mercedes - take a loud boisterous engine, throw it into one of their cars, and magic happens. In the past, this would have meant a guzzling V8 or V12, with lots of other performance trinkets that turn their cars into undercover street weapons. However, due to tighter emission standards and the quest for cleaner cars, Mercedes has replaced this formula with smaller displacements. It’s time to say goodbye to the V12 supercar era of Lamborghini, and what better way to send it off than to create two one-off monsters – a roadster and a coupé.


The name previously existed on one of BMW’s most potent compact performance cars. It would take a very special car to be able to properly wear the CS title again, and thankfully it seems that BMW has done it. What they have created, is a formidable four-wheel-drive monster. This limited-edition road-worthy track weapon shows off an uprated version of the BMW M3’s 3.0-litre turbo straight 6, producing an extremely respectable 542bhp. That’s 39 horses more than the ‘standard’ M3 Competition, and now the M3 CS has the same output as the BMW M4 CSL. Couple that to a plentiful supply of torque, which is rated at 650Nm, and you get a potent street weapon.

Has the horsepower arms race ended yet? If cars like the car tested here are anything to go by, Subaru could well be at the leading edge of a new movement. Yet, the surprise is that it might not be a bad thing. The Subaru Forester e-Boxer 2.0i-S Eyesight Hybrid as the car tested here is called in full makes all of 150hp and 194Nm of torque. Quite a long way off the heady days when the mighty 2.0XT made up to 240hp less than a decade ago. The downside of the XT however, was its woeful fuel efficiency as it came with a four-speed automatic and needed a heavy weight engine oil and had to be fed high octane petrol. Add all-wheel drive into the mix and you’ve got a recipe for a proper guzzler. These days, when fuel prices being what they are, the Forester needs to work smarter, not harder to stay relevant in the market. To this end, Subaru has done exactly that. The Consumer Electronics Show or CES is a big annual affair in Vegas. Those who follow tech-YouTubers would have found their notifications inundated by coverage of the latest and snazziest tech gizmos at CES. These days, automotive manufacturers are also getting in on the exhibition due to the proliferation of in-vehicle technology, and the famous Bavarian manufacturer known for introducing technology to their cars in a huge way with iDrive is no exception. According to BMW Group, their future “is electric, circular and digital”, and the i Vision Dee concept is dedicated to the ‘digital’ aspect of the triumvirate. Can’t wait to see what the ‘circular’ concept will look like.

Valentino Rossi certainly needs no introduction. His successes on the racetrack and his personality have quite rightly made him a living legend. Some may not know this, but Rossi has also proved that he is an excellent driver too. He has since shown that car racing has become his second motorsport home. Now, swapping his two wheels for four, he will be joining the BMW M Works driver roster for their 2023 season.
