Hyundai presents a delicious kimchi which should entice the younger crowd - now lets see how it's priced


The new car will be based on the New Generation i30, which was launched last year. The racing version is designed to take advantage of the best qualities of the road-going model, which went through its own rigorous testing plan, including mileage on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.Work on the design began at Hyundai Motorsport in September last year; building and development of the cars will also be completed at the company’s headquarters in Alzenau, Germany. The creation of this new project continues the work started by the Customer Racing department on the New Generation i20 R5 rally car which showed the high-performance, dynamic side of Hyundai to a wider audience.In line with current TCR regulations, the car will be powered by a two-litre turbocharged engine (from within the Hyundai range), and fitted with a six-speed gearbox and 100-litre fuel tank. The car is scheduled to begin testing in early April, while the first deliveries to customers are planned for December.

Strategically located at the gateway within Iskandar Puteri, Fastrackcity is approximately 10 minutes away from the Tuas SecondLink Checkpoint. The development is set to become the ultimate automotive lifestyle hub for enthusiasts of all ages in Malaysia, Singapore and beyond. The development will feature a 4.45km state-of-the-art Grade 1 Federation Internationale Automobile (FIA) and Grade A Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) international circuit. The terrain-hugging track takes advantage of the site’s natural 60-metre elevation differential, hence providing a racing experience like no other race tracks in Asia.

The wreck was transported to NTCE Barcelona in May 2014 and the eight-strong restoration team began work, using their own time at evenings and weekends. They searched all over Europe for parts, asking Nissan dealers to search their warehouses for old stock; some components were bought used and also restored. Juan added, “We wanted the car to be accurate in every way, and were lucky to get the very old drawings and service manuals from NTCE. We followed all the fine adjustments to get the exact Paris-Dakar race set-up.”

BP — What cars do you guys own? JML — I have a VW Passat biturbo. MA — I actually have the same. JML We both also have VW Golf GTIs; mine is a 1980 and Miikka’s is a 1983. MA — And I also have a ’92 Polo G40, which is a very rare car in Finland, and a Mercedes 190SL from 1963. JML — In my collection I have a MkII Ford Escort BDA, I have an Audi ur-Quattro road car, Quattro Group 4 rally car, Quattro A2 Group B rally car, and then an Audi Coupe Quattro. Then I have a ’99 Toyota Corolla WRC car (which we were using back when we were privateers in Finland, but now it’s been completely restored), and then a Sunbeam Avenger (which was the first rally car I ever got), an AE86 Corolla Levin (which I was running when I was 16 years old), and my father has a Ford Escort RS BDA and two Mitsubishis, a Group A Lancer Evo III from 1996, and a Lancer WRC 2002. The Golf GTI and ur-Quattro are completely road cars, in original condition, but the rally cars all have some sort of history, and that’s what’s important to me.

BP — Would you be as effective with another driver or is there a sort of chemistry between you guys? MA — I think it depends mostly on how well you can cope with the system of a particular driver, because normally every driver has his own preference and the co-driver must adapt himself and understand what the driver needs. There are several co-drivers who have been successful with several different drivers, so I think that one driver can be successful with many co-drivers, but for a co-driver to be successful he needs a very talented driver. The GT4 Clubsport is blessed with many of the same traits that make its street-going sibling a riot to drive, such as bodywork that helps to produce genuine downforce on both axles, a lower, wider track and a mid-mounted 3.8 liter flat six engine that produces 385hp. However alterations have been made to beef up the base car, such as front suspension that has been lifted wholesale from a GT3 cup car while the rear has a revised strut design with GT3 cup car control arms. The 6-piston front and 4-piston rear brake calipers are also a one piece design now for added strength.

In fact, partner Liqui Moly Team Engstler will be running two cars at the eighth round of the Touringcar Racer International Series (TCR) at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg (A). This will be the first competitive test for the car. “The newly created TCR category provides a promising platform for customer racing — on a national and international level. This TCR-ready (Touringcar Racer International Series) Golf concept is one mean wide-bodied hatchback on steroids.


The Cayman GT4 is powered by a mid-mounted, 3.8-litre flat-six engine with 385 hp (283 kW) produced at 7,400 rpm, which is derived from the 911 Carrera S engine. Its power is transmitted by a standard six-speed manual gearbox with dynamic gearbox mounts - there is no PDK transmission option, which should be good news to purists. This translates to a 0-100 km/h time of 4.4 seconds; top speed is 295 km/h. The car\'s NEDC fuel consumption is 9.7 km/L, equivalent to 238 g/km CO2.
