Two new flagships arrive to head Jaguar's model lines, and though they share the same heart, their briefs couldn't be more different.


The 3.8-litre V8 engine, although smaller than the previous flagship's 4.7-litre, is built to deliver 18% more power and 39% more torque, while having a 20% reduction in emissions. 530 bhp is available if you're gunning it all the way to 6800 rpm, but a hefty 650 Nm of torque starts to warm you up from as low as 2000rpm. Oh, and this can be overboosted to 710 Nm from 2250 rpm, enabling the car to hit 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds!

Maserati's all new Quattroporte received a warm welcome by the media recently at a private preview held by Hong Seh Motors, distributors for the italian marque.


The V6 is offered with a choice of drivetrains from an AWD ‘Q4’ system that is LHD only, to a more traditional RWD. Both V6s are capable of a top speed of 285 km/h. This “Q4” system is a revolutionary first for the new Quattroporte.

Now let's talk about what it has. The MC Stradale generates 10 bhp more from the 4.7-litre V8 engine than the GranTurismo S. Torque is also up with a further 20 Nm improvement at 510 Nm. It was Tomas Enge who held the lead from pole position as the 22 car grid thundered along the main straight into the first corner. Everyone made it around the Senna S with Peter Dumbreck in the No. 23 Sumo Power Nissan GT-R holding onto the rear of the leading Aston Martin, while Clivio Piccione in the No. 10 Hexis Aston Martin was being pressurised by the No. 2 Vitaphone Maserati of Enrique Bernoldi, with the Brazilian sweeping into third place on lap 2. Starting from the back of the grid, the No. 5 Matech Ford of Richard Westbrook was on the move early on, moving up four places in the first three laps and a further three places by lap 9 in his attempt to get ahead of the No. 1 Vitaphone Maserati of Andrea Bertolini. Bertolini was holding a points scoring position in ninth place, which became 10th when he was passed by the Triple H Team Hegersport Maserati of Daniel Serra.
