The transmission, although shifting smoothly, somewhat has the tendency to shift up earlier than expected even in Sport mode. Thankfully BMW made paddle-shifters a standard fixture here, which allows you to manually pick your own gears. While at that, the car is willing to stretch all the way to its 7,000 rpm redline; however, it does feel flat past 5,000 rpm.

This new range of cars is positioned between the regular BMW vehicles and the motorsport-inspired BMW M cars, and is targeted at sporty drivers with the preference for more driving pleasure without compromising on everyday usability,” said Mr Sethipong Anutarasoti, Corporate Affairs Director of BMW Group Asia.

BMW presents the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe, an extension of the 4 Series range after the Coupe and recently revealed Convertible.


BMW's Advanced Diesel engines feature TwinPower Turbo technology, capable of generating high levels of torque for performance-minded drivers. At the same time, low fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are also ensured. A key feature is the high injection pressure of up to 2,000 bars which is generated regardless of engine speed or amount of fuel being injected. In combination with the standard particle filter, the diesel models offered in Singapore already comply with the EU 5 emissions standard.

Honestly though, I only had a brief encounter with the standard M5. And I did not fancy it; there’s just something, which is missing in this car. In fact, it feels so incomplete I fell in love with the Jaguar XF-R instead. Now, that’s one understated cat; it isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed but it has that big-engined, gangsta’ in a suit vibe. What you see here, is the latest face-lifted BMW 5 Series. No, really it is! I know the changes are subtle (maybe a bit too subtle), but as the saying goes: Don't fix it if it ain't broke.


Up close, the 5GT actually looks huge, both in length and height. My wife's first impression was that seemed to be in a similar class as the 7 Series. At almost 5 meters long, the measurements are not far off. Subtle changes to the front face and rear sharpen the look a bit. A set of large and sexy 20-inch wheels also add to the new modernized look. Smoothened and curvier lines help make the car look less chunky, and refreshed adaptive LED headlights are now standard on both the 528i and 535i.

Ever been in a situation where you found someone more attractive only after getting to know her/him better? Well, that was certainly the case with my encounter with the 5 Series GT, or 5GT for short.


It has road presence, that’s for sure. In fact, it could even be mistaken for the X3 from a distance. While some might opine it has too much creases, most would probably agree that it makes the car appear rather muscular — like The Incredible Hulk before CGI came about (again, know what I mean?). And of course, BMW placed an emphasis on aesthetics as well: vents on both front fenders added some sportiness, and then the pairing of 19-inch alloys wrapped in 225/45 R-19 front and 255/40 R-19 rear Continental rubbers sums up the visual drama.
