The metal roof and origami-like folding mechanism do add 45kg of weight over the standard fabric roof, but with an overall kerbweight of 1125kg, we have no doubt the MX-5 RF will still be an absolute hoot to drive.

In early 2016, a second shift was introduced into the McLaren Production Centre to cater for the increased volume thanks to the introduction of the Sports Series family, today comprising the 540C, 570S and 570GT. This took capacity at the Production Centre from 10 cars per day to 20 cars per day. 2016 also marked the announcement of the company’s third year of profitability in the first five years it has been producing cars — unprecedented in the automotive industry. McLaren is also on target to almost double its sales this year  compared to 2015, from 1,654 cars last year to over 3,000 cars in 2016, of which over 90 percent exported. This volume increase is thanks, in large part, to the ramp up in production and success of the Sports Series models.

Meanwhile, the best overall MPG figure from a conventional internal combustion engine car was 88.87 mpg (37.78 km/L), achieved by John Kerswill and Ian McKean in a Mazda 2 1.6d Sports Nav; this figure was an improvement of 5.77 mpg (2.45 km/L) over the manufacturer’s claimed figure, hence allowing them the title 'Best Outright MPG - Cars' category.

Student-designed cars will compete at the Shell Eco-marathon Asia, to be held in Singapore for the first time, as part of 'Make the Future Singapore'


The runs were carried out at Skellefteå Drive Center, a former airfield just outside Skellefteå in northern Sweden. The truck covered the distance in both directions; based on these two runs, the average time and speed were calculated. The record result the FIA presented is the average speed of the two runs.

Historically one of Singapore’s most popular family sedans, the all-new 10th-generation Honda Civic has now arrived, with a radically sportier look and for the first time, a turbocharged engine.


Styling-wise, the E-class ditches the quad-headlamp look it’s sported for the last two decades, and instead now looks like a carbon copy of the current C- and S-Classes. Overall length and wheelbase have grown by 43mm and 65mm respectively for added legroom, while the front track is now 20mm wider for slightly keener handling. Three trim levels are available — Exclusive (with the traditional Mercedes radiator grille with the upright star on the bonnet), Avantgarde, and AMG Line (both of which have a sports grille with integrated Mercedes star).

One key difference between the Coupe and Spyder R8 models is of course the lightweight, fully automated cloth hood, which can be activated at speeds of up to 50 km/h, and is slickly concealed beneath the sculpted integral cover - it takes just 20 seconds for the roof to be activated. The rear window can also be retracted and extended at the touch of a button.

The BMW M5 Competition Edition uses an even more powerful version of the twin-turbo V8 found in the standard BMW M5. While retaining the M TwinPower Turbo technology, twin-scroll turbochargers, high-precision direct fuel injection, Valvetronic variable valve control and the cross-bank exhaust manifold of the standard car, the Competition Edition runs more boost courtesy of a recalibrated ECU. Maximum power is up from 560 hp to 600 hp, with the peak torque of the V8 rising from 680 Nm to 700 Nm. As a result, the M5 Competition Edition can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, compared to 4.4 seconds for the standard car. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h. BMW’s seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission Drivelogic and Efficient Dynamics technology, including engine Auto Start-Stop and Brake Energy Regeneration comes standard.Improved handling comes courtesy of stiffer responses from the springs and electronically controlled dampers, along with thicker anti-roll bars. The Active M electronically controlled multi-plate limited slip differential, which intervenes rapidly and precisely at an early stage to control wheelspin and keep the car stable, is recalibrated for an even more sporty response. Once again, there are three Drive Control settings to choose from: Comfort for normal road use, Sport when a more dynamic driving style is preferred and Sport Plus for the most extreme driving, such as on a race track. Six-piston caliper brakes are mounted within the 20-inch M Double-spoke 601M light alloy wheels.

The F-Pace, Jaguar’s first-ever SUV, finally lands on local shores, and we got to sample it, together with the rest of the range, at the Jaguar Performance Tour.


Yet despite the increased dimensions, the car weighs about the same as before and benefits from increased rigidity thanks to Porsche’s new MSB platform, with most of the structure and bodywork wrought in aluminium along with sections of high-strength steel added in for good measure. Should you desire more handling prowess, a whole suite of acronymed witchcraft is offered, such as PASM (Porsche Active Suspension Management), PTV (Porsche Torque Vectoring) and Rear Wheel Steering, all of which help to keep this large Porscheagile at all speeds. All this trickery is optimized on-the-go by Porsche’s 4D chassis management system.
