The sprint from zero to 100 km/h takes just 6.9 seconds, and the top speed is 227 km/h. This A1 achieves its spontaneous response and high propulsive power, even at high speeds, thanks to its special concept – a combination of super charger and turbo charger.
    • Just as significant as the startling performance capabilities of the A1 1.4 TFSI (185 bhp) is the extensive standard equipment list. Audi has pulled out all the stops to make the new Audi A1 the best-equipped car in the segment, making an even stronger statement on the A1’s positioning as a genuine premium car with all the feel-good features found in the larger Audi models. The supercharger springs into action at 1,500 rpm and in most situations is disengaged at 2,400 rpm. From 3,500 rpm, the turbo charger does all the work. Because it doesn’t have to do as much work at the lower end of the rev range, Audi engineers were able to design the turbo charger for high efficiency.
    • The A1 1.4 TFSI (185 bhp) with S line kit also impresses with groundbreaking efficiency. It consumes on average just 5.9 litres of fuel per 100 km, corresponding to CO2 emissions of just 139 g/km. These impressive numbers result from the FSI concept, the dual-charging system and also technologies from the modular efficiency platform. The standard seven-speed S tronic transmission directs the power of the 1.4 TFSI to the front wheels. The high-end transmission is very short and light. The seven-speed S
tronic is composed of two transmission structures, which are operated by two multiplate clutches. The shifting process takes place in just a few hundredths of a second and with no detectable interruption of pulling power. The tall seventh gear reduces fuel consumption.

    • Unlike most hybrids we know today, Volkswagen has placed the clutch between the engine and transmission. This allows the engine to be shut off the moment it detects that the car is coasting, even at speeds up to 160 km/h. This design is to allow the Touareg to “roll” significantly longer with reduced torque loss. Other energy-hoarding features in place are the regenerative braking as well as engine stop-start systems.
    • Without any power from the engine, the Touareg relies on an electro-hydraulic power steering which supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure with an electric pump. An auxiliary electric vacuum pump that is used during electric driving guarantees that the vacuum supply required by the brake booster is maintained. In addition, an electric air conditioning compressor in the Touareg Hybrid assures that interior temperatures will be kept in check even when the V6 engine is shut off.

The Audi A7 Sportback combines supreme long-distance comfort with a sporty character. The interior noise level is very low even at fast speeds; with the V6 engine providing refined acoustic feedback as their power unfolds. The excellent vibration behaviour is the result of painstakingly-tuned components, systematic hydraulic damping in the axle and drive train bearings, and an extremely stiff body. Made primarily of aluminum and high-tech steels, the A7 Sportback is extremely lightweight and safe. Chassis wise, the Audi A7 Sportback is also available with large wheels starting from 19 inches in diameter. The links are made of aluminium; the newly-developed power steering features an electromechanical drive. The Audi drive select dynamics system is standard and can be supplemented by the optional adaptive air suspension.

The key feature is the “wrap-around,” a horizontal line that encircles the driver and front seat passenger to provide a feeling of safety and security. The interior is also testament to the meticulous attention to detail that Audi puts into building cars; the quality of the craftsmanship is on par with fine handcrafted goods. The senses are pampered with high quality new materials including veneers made with a laminated-wood technique; options include ambient lighting that highlights the interior. Options available for the front seat include ventilation and massage features.

The previous electric speed record on this circuit was set by a race-prepared Mini E, which clocked a lap time of nine minutes and 51.45 seconds.
    • While electric cars are still over two minutes between the fastest petrol-powered super cars and track cars, we are seeing progression for electric car development. This record-breaking achievement however, would be a nice milestone for Peugeot. Happy 200th birthday!

    • Under the skin, the 12C GT3 shares the same 75 kg MonoCell chassis as the 12C road car. With lightness as a priority, only carbon fibre is used in the chassis. The result is a dry weight of just 1,301 kg. The Formula One derived steering wheel features an integrated driver display, paddle shift and switches.
    • The 3.8 litre McLaren V8 twin turbo M838T engine makes its appearance again in the 12C GT3, albeit being de-tuned from 591 hp to 493 hp in order to provide optimum power. Power is shifted through a Ricado-developed six-speed sequential shift gearbox, which is 80 kg lighter than the Seamless Shift seven-speed gearbox used in the road car.

    • Just barely thirty seconds before, the kids were singing merrily to the zoo trip as promised by their dad a fortnight ago. His wife told him to keep his eyes on the road, but he replied saying that he needed just a minute to make a call on his mobile phone to tell his father the gist of the rally. For that one minute of enthusiasm, he delivered his family through hell and smashed the other driver to the opposite side of the road, all in the space of thirty seconds...
    • There is palpable cause for trepidations when the driver beside you opts to compromise your personal safety as well as that of other road users in exchange for a few minutes of chat time on his mobile phone. In all seriousness, it is certainly not a very judicious idea to start a conversation on your mobile phone while being in control of a vehicle. Cogitating on the archetypical situations of driving, a driver is required to keep both his hands on the steering wheel and the gear shifter. While the ears remained sensitive to noise from the traffic environment (warning horns and vehicle noises etc), we keep our sights on the road and our brain functions simultaneously to counteract any unforeseen road hazards.
  • The new Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tyre features an advanced full silica compound which reduces the friction between the tyre's rubber molecules and provides higher resistance to abrasion, resulting in reduced fuel consumption and a longer tread life. Additionally, the tyre is built with a hard base under the tread, which reduces deformation in the crown area and heat build-up. The tyre also features even pressure distribution that helps to reduce the rate of wear.

    • For better protection against flats, Goodyear used DuPont Kevlar, a lightweight material which is stronger than steel to reinforce the new tyre. Designed to be smooth and quiet, the new tyre is also said to deliver better braking and grip on both wet and dry surfaces. Aquaplane resistance comes in the form of four uninterrupted circumferential grooves.
