The only modifications made to the car are a bonnet protector and a sump guard, essential equipment for taking on the harshest terrain long after the Tarmac has run out.Otherwise, the XV is entirely ‘as standard’. It even remains on the same original equipment all-weather tyres as other XVs, with the team relying on the Japanese brand’s unique Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system and famed reliability, ruggedness and build quality to get them all the way to Ulaanbaatar.

A Subaru XV To Take On 35,000 KM

The Subaru XV compact crossover is to be subjected to its toughest challenge yet, a 35,000 km on- and off-road journey from London to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – and back again.


The facelift for the XC60 really is just that – a slight refinement of its aesthetics while leaving the mechanicals untouched. Compared to the old model, most of the changes have been made to the front end: the headlamp cluster is now a single unit, the grille is wider and has been de-chromed, and DRLs have been installed. The entire body is also now shorn of all black plastic cladding, reflecting the fact that this car’s home is on the blacktop, not the rough stuff.

So significant is the event that LRPhils brought in no less than RFC founder and creator, Luis J.A.Wee to witness the event and to oversee the construction of the RFC SS designed according to the standards of RFC Prologue format. Daniel Liew, RFC East Malaysia Rep, Dennis Javier a veteran Filipino campaigner in RFC assisted in the SS design with PORCI organizing committee. Robby Consunji, the RFC Rep for Philippines was overall in charge as the Race Director. With the meticulous planning done, it was all systems go on D-Day.

Hottest Show In Central Luzon

Held at SM City, a prominent shopping mall, Pampanga Grounds in the City of San Fernando in Central Luzon, it was the hottest race ever for man and machine.


The Special Stages (SS) challenged the driving and recovery skills in the two classes of competitor teams (Modified and Special) to the maximum as they shake, rattled and rolled their machines. If the Friday Prologue SS was tough with mechanical problems and broken egos, the following two days were tougher for man and machine. On the second day, the action shifted to the banks of the Isonzo river and the hills of Farra. It was time for very technical maneuvers which required nerves of steel even from the most seasoned teams, but everyone was on full throttle with passion and played out the SS with true grit.
