Drifteritis Strikes Again! | Spark Motorsports Drift Clinic

BY Keegan Gan

Are you sick of going straight? Or, are you looking for healthier ways of reducing your rear tyre's service life?

Now you'll have more cures to choose from, with the motorsports arm of ComfortDelGro Engineering holding its first drift clinic yesterday at the Changi Exhibition Centre.

Gung-ho amateurs and professionals alike had guidance from the "drift doctors", former Formula Drift Singapore champion Ryuji Miki, along with Ivan Lim from Team Goodyear SPARK Motorsports and Formula Drift USA driver Charles Ng as they slid around the steaming hot tarmac on the exhibition grounds.

First half of the day was dedicated to practicing on the circuit itself, with the less-experienced drivers focusing on learning drifting basics on a separate track laid besides the main drifting circuit, which consisted of a reducing radius left sweeper, followed by tight and fast corners. The later part of the day was set aside for the drift challenge, in which the top three drifters will take home cash prizes of $700, $500 and $300 respectively.

Despite no reprieve from the blazing tropical sun, a day at a proper circuit where one can freely burn the treads off the rear tyres didn't seem to faze the patients afflicted by drifteritis. Till the next one, keep those drifting antibiotics handy.
