Three Auto Trophy Wins For Audi

BY Keegan Gan

Success for Audi as the A1, Audi R8 Spyder and Audi A5 Sportback clinch three Auto Trophy awards.

More than 103,000 readers of the German car magazine “Auto Zeitung” participated in the “2010 Auto Trophy” poll and voted three Audi models as best in their class. The Audi A1, Audi R8 Spyder and Audi A5 Sportback took three of the highly coveted class awards in this annual event. Five other Audi models were runners-up and yet another secured third place. In the Image Report car brand voting, Audi led the field by a long margin for the seventh year in succession. During the 23- year history of the Auto Trophy, Audi has gained this prestigious award 46 times for various models. The trophies were presented on Tuesday evening at a gala event in Düsseldorf’s “Meilenwerk”.

In the “midsize car” category, 22.6 percent of the voters chose the Audi A5 Sportback – the second time in succession that this Audi model has won the “Auto Trophy”. The same accolade went to the Audi R8 Spyder in the category “Convertibles above 30,000 euros”, with 19.6 percent of the votes cast.

The new Audi A1 completed the Audi hat-trick in this year’s “Auto Trophy” poll, and scored a second notable success immediately afterwards: the “Golden Steering Wheel”. In the “Auto Trophy” it attracted 28.7 percent of the votes in the “Small cars” category.

These impressive results were backed by second places in their classes for the Audi A3 (“Compact class”), the Audi A3 Cabriolet (“Convertibles up to 30,000 euros”), the Audi RS 5 (Sports cars”), the Audi R8 (“Supersport models”) and the Audi A8 (“Luxury class”). In the “Large cars” class, the Audi A7 Sportback took third place. In the Image Report, Audi was once again unbeatable: the magazine’s readers were invited to choose from 48 car manufacturers – and for the seventh time in succession the prestige car brand came out on top, with 38.5 percent. The Auto Trophy was awarded this year for the 23rd time. More than 103,000 readers of “Auto Zeitung” were asked to choose their favorites from some 400 models in 29 categories.
