Volkswagen's All-New Jetta Has Landed!

BY Burnpavement

Promising first class motoring, the new Jetta isn't just a Golf with a boot stuck onto it.

Wider and longer than the previous model, the new Jetta may look rather plain when lined up next to its intended rivals. But with prices starting at S$107,800, the base Jetta 1.4 TSI is bringing the German marque's famous TSI and seven speed DSG technologies to battle in Singapore's hotly-contested family saloon category.

The S$114,800 Comfort variant adds 16 inch “Navarra” alloy wheels, a sprinkling of chrome on the radiator grille as well as front fog lamps. On the inside, the upgraded package comes with more storage pockets and leather trims, as well as cruise control, rain sensing wipers and electrical folding mirrors.

The range-topping Jetta Sport 1.4 TSI costs S$124,800. That buys you a twincharged 1.4 TSI engine that's good for 160 hp and 240 Nm of torque. In addition, it is specified with an entertainment system with a 30 GB hard drive and Volkswagen’s Keyless Entry Start and Exit System (KESSY).

One thing that we are certain about the new Jetta is the large amount of space it offers. With a 510 litres boot, it looks like it can easily swallow a typical week's worth of groceries. And the interior space is nothing short of impressive. With four large-bodied journalists packed into the Jetta which Pierre Png came out from, there was still enough room for us to stretch our legs, demonstrated perfectly by Azfar.

If you're wondering why the MediaCorp star was at the launch, he is the ambassador for the new Jetta and will be involved with customer events and marketing activities. Pierre will soon be driving around town in his own Jetta Sport.
