Fast Five's Musical Heist

BY Burnpavement

The Fast and Furious franchise has spawned a musical following, with every installment seemingly having a future chart-topping song in the mix.

Despite moving away from pure car culture roots and moving into the the more general action flick genre, the Fast and Furious franchise has always scored with the car enthusiasts. Now, can the music still keep up? With Don Omar and Ludacris appearing in the movie, kicking things off is the energetic rap track “How We Roll (Fast Five Remix),” performed by Don Omar, Busta Rhymes, Reek da Villian and J-doe. Remixed exclusively for the movie, this joins the other exclusive English rap track “Furiously Dangerous.” Performed by American rapper Ludacris, it features hip hop group Slaughterhouse and Claret Jai, a classic rap track that pushes all the right buttons for a car-centric movie.

With the film set in Brazil, the album is filled with a mix of Portuguese tracks too, ranging from the ethnic “Carlito Marron” by Bahia musician Carlinhos Brown, the rap-tastic “Batalha” by ObandO or the joyful “Danza Kuduro” by Don Omar. Granted, most of us won't understand every single word sung in the song, but that doesn't mean that they don't make great music to groove with. Three instrumental scores from the movie, ranging to which range from pure epic-ness to down-and-gritty industrial rock are included in this CD. Produced by Brian Tyler, “Assembling the Team”, “Mad Skills” and “Fast Five Suite” are the tracks that shaped the atmosphere of this movie. This installment of the soundtrack is perhaps the most diverse in the Fast and Furious universe. From the moment we has this wonderful album in our car's stereo, we never ever, ever wanted to get out of our cars.
