Suzuki's Swift Takes Flight In Singapore

BY Burnpavement

While the previous Swift brought Suzuki awards and new fans, the new one looks set to cement Suzuki's appeal for good.

In case if you didn't know, the motto that the Suzuki team worked around for the new car is “More Swift!”. With improved fuel economy, performance and handling, the team also promised more style, better fit and finish, and above all, more fun.

Other than the tweaked exterior that shows off the car's elegant, yet toned and athletic body, the new car has a black-and-silver interior that is more sporty. A new liquid-crystal information display shows essential information such as average fuel consumption and driving range on remaining fuel.

More than just a new face, the rear-suspension is firmed up for better straight-line and lower body roll. Suzuki has also tweaked the wheelbase, stiffened the body and suspension mountings. There is also a nifty new variable-gear-ratio steering rack which delivers quicker response while keeping the effort needed to steer lower. Brakes have also been beefed up and the manual transmission receiving a shift assist to make gear changes smoother.

Suzuki also claims that the new Swift delivers a quieter ride through the use of acoustic damping parts and redesigning components, even the door mirrors to keep the noise level to a minimum. The new car is safer too, with six airbags (front, side, curtain) fitted as standard.

The new Suzuki Swift may have just reached our shores, but it has won the prestigious Automotive Researchers and Journalists Conference of Japan (RJC) 2011 Car of the Year award. Well, we can't wait to see what Suzuki has in store for the swifter Swift!
