Mercedes-Benz Launches The C 63 AMG

BY Burnpavement

Four doors good, two doors better! The new C 63 AMG coupe joins the AMG family of coupes which consists of the CLS 63 AMG and the CL 63 AMG.

The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine in the C 63 AMG coupé delivers a maximum output of 457hp and 600Nm, propelling this car from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and towards an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. To go with the extra power, AMG has also stiffened the suspension, widened the tracks, sharpened the steering, upsized the wheel/tyre package and beefed up the brakes.

Order this C 63 AMG with the AMG performance package and power goes up to 487 hp. Available as an option, this package improves acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h to 4.4 seconds, with technology transferred from the SLS AMG responsible for the increase in output. The optional package also includes a beefier braking system with composite front discs, red painted brake callipers all round, carbon fibre spoiler lip on the boot lid and a steering wheel made from nappa leather and Alcantara.

Mated to the V8 is a seven AMG speedshift gearbox which provides direct and dynamic power delivery. It also comes with a Controlled Efficiency "C" mode: Providing early upshifts while maintaining the lowest possible engine speed and "soft" accelerator characteristics, achieving better fuel economy.

In the "S", "S+" and "M" modes however, it delivers faster gear changes and higher revs with double-declutching. Gear changes in the "S+" and "M" modes take just 100 milliseconds. The Race Start function allows the driver to explore the vehicle's full acceleration capability.

It is not just all engine and transmission, the new coupe also has a separate three-link front suspension, a reinforced multi-link independent rear suspension and a wider track all round. The setup is tuned to give better agility by optimizing the responsiveness of the suspension while keeping road roar and tyre vibration in check.

Even after losing two doors, the C 63 AMG coupe is a fully fledged four-seater with the AMG-styled rear seats. To enlarge the luggage compartment, the backrests in the rear can be folded down. There's no shortage of assistance toys too, what comes as standard are ABS braking, Attention Assist, Headlamp Assist and Cruise Control, with other useful features such as Active Lane Keeping Assist and Parking Guidance as optional extras.
