Six Females Step Up To Subaru's Stunt-Driving Challenge

BY Burnpavement

Six women debunked the perception of women being inferior drivers at the Subaru’s Search For Female Stunt Driver event at the F1 Pit Building last Saturday.

The six were put through a series of manoeuvres such as reverse parking, forward and reverse slaloms, hand-brake U-turns, and a series of gymkanas. They were judged on precision, judgement, driving aptitude and car control while competing to execute the tricky moves in the shortest amount of time to determine who possessed the makings of a stunt-driver.

Emerging as the winner of the pack was Su-Anne Tan, a 30-year-old stay-home mother. A driver of 11 years road experience, Su-Anne in her Subaru Impreza 1.5, impressed the judges and crowd with her swift timings, precise execution and exceptional accuracy.

She particularly excelled in the categories of reverse-driving obstacles, sharp-bend turns and hand-brake stops. She said, “I always feel that I could be something more than just a plain driver. And because I like having control of my car, it seems appropriate for me to try stunt driving. I basically love to do what men can do, and especially so with cars,” Having developed an interest for automobiles at a young age, she added, “I have never missed any motor shows here in Singapore. My favourite are the Russ Swift’s stunt shows.”

Trailing closely behind Su-Anne was Jean Tan, a 21-year-old Customer Service Manager who obtained her driving license three years ago. In third place was Angelique Lim, a 32-year-old Marketing Manager, who has been driving for ten years. The Subaru’s Search For Female Stunt Driver was held at the F1 Pit Building, on Saturday, 13th November 2010.
