Tesla’s long-awaited compact sports utility vehicle finally hits the roads here.

Tesla has recently begun deliveries of its latest all-electric SUV, the Model Y, in Singapore. A preliminary batch of 10 customers took delivery of their Model Y (RWD) and Performance at Tesla’s Toa Payoh Experience Centre, with more deliveries slated for the coming months.

Since its unveiling in 2019, the Model Y has become the best-selling electric SUV in the world, and is currently one of the safest cars on the road thanks to perfect 5-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). With Tesla’s latest addition to its fleet, it marks a critical step in the company’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy in the city.

Designed and built as Tesla’s first mass-market sports utility EV, the Model Y boasts over 2100 litres of cargo space with versatile seating and storage for up to 5 passengers and their belongings.

The basic Model Y is the RWD model, with a 295hp rear-wheel drive electric motor that propels it from 0 to 100km/h in 6.9 seconds. Claimed range is up to 455km (WLTP) per charge. Top speed is rated at 217km/h, and other notable features which come as standard include 19-inch alloy rims, an all-glass roof, Tesla autopilot, active safety features and a HEPA air filtration system.

If you spring for the 527hp Performance variant, the Model Y’s century sprint drops to a staggering 3.7 seconds thanks to its dual motor all-wheel drive setup, with a range of up to 514km (WLTP) per charge. Top speed also gets beefed up to 250km/h, and the car will come with additional features such as 20 or 21-inch Uberturbine alloy rims, lower suspension, performance brakes, a carbonfibre spoiler and performance pedals.

As part of Tesla’s commitment to Singapore, the company will further enhance its sales services and charging support to provide a more conducive, convenient and seamless Tesla ownership experience. As of today, Tesla is currently operating 9 V3 Supercharging and 24 Supercharger stations in Singapore. Most of these superchargers are located in popular destinations, further increasing convenience for owners. With V3 Supercharging, a Model Y Performance, operating at peak efficiency of 250kW, can recover up to 120km of charge in just 5 minutes.

The Model Y is on sale now at SGD $142,471 for the regular variant, and SGD $190,195 for the Performance variant. Prices include EV incentives and are exclusive of COE.

If you are keen on checking out Tesla’s offering, the general public can now experience the all-electric Model 3 and Model Y at both Tesla’s Millenia Walk and Toa Payoh Experience Centres.
